Authorities are preparing to add 7-inch steel spikes to the top of the fence to deter climbers.

While those may sound far fetched, I truly think barbed wire is not out of realm of possibility. Maybe not now, but in the next 20 years I could see it happening.

If Bush was still in office, that would be the first option considered. People that live in Texas know if you have a fence and someone climbs it, they are getting shot.

I don't think they are up there all the time. IIRC, its only when there is a heightened level of security.


I still don't get trying to climb that fence. What purpose does it serve? Best case scenario is jail. Worst is a bullet. Middle ground is attack dog to the ass cheek.

They do post snipers on the capital from time to time. When I worked in DC we had the closest commercial building to the capital and on certain days the building security would need to know if we are going onto the roof and how many so that the snipers would know who we are.

Yes, it should look like a prison. And, the people working there should understand they are doing a public service for the country, nothing more. It isn't some life choice or career goal, it is a fucking public service similar to jury duty. In fact, we should make all politicians remember this.

Good point. Maybe if politicians worked in places that looked more like prisons, they'd act less like felons.

For what it's worth, the White House fence already had spikes. These are simply spikier and less decorative spikes.
