if I say FREE, it's really free.
Normally, if you apply the American Express Delta SkyMiles card, you get 10000 Bonus miles. but with $85 annual fee!

There is a limited time offer on Delta's website, (expire 12/2/2002), with that offer the $85 annual fee is waived for first year! you still get 10000 bonus miles if you are approved. here is delta's page with the offer link: http://www.delta.com/skymiles/sm_ccard/index.jsp

what's more? if you are not yet a delta skymiles member, here is the info to start out with 3000 bonus miles!

there you go. 13000 bonus miles. since 25000 miles is a US/canada anywhere roundtrip ticket, 13K miles is worth $200+.
I also just found out, DELTA is the only airline that let you fly to HAWAII for only 30000 miles! think about how much you save if you plan a trip from EAST COAST to HAWAII!!

UPDATE: New offer: 3000 more bonus miles!!
Use any three participating SkyMiles partners, up to three times! That means just use your AMEX Delta SkyMiles card in Nov, Dec and Jan. You get another 3000 bonus miles!"

You need to register online for this offer by December 15, 2002.

here are the registeration link and details

right. No BVG.

the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card does have BVG, but the annual fee is $135! You do get 5000 more bonus miles with that card, but $135 is probably too much for most people.

The gold delta skymiles card is not bad as a reward credit card. Use it at gas stations, supermarkets, pay for wireless phones..etc, you get 2 miles per dollar, that's about 3% reward, since 2 miles worth about 3 cents.

Hey thanks! I just bought a ticket for flying from Los Angeles to Frankfurt, Germany for Christmas. With these free 13k miles, and the 12,660 I will earn for that trip, I have already earned a free trip in the US! Great post!

Yeh but the Delta Sykmiles Gold is $100 and you don't get BVG or the free companion ticket. If you can qualify, the Delta Skymiles Platinum card is by far the best AMEX BVG card available. In addition to the $1000 per year potential BVG benefit you also get a free companion ticket each year you renew. This ticket is unrestricted and fully transferrable (ie.eBay) I have had this card since its inception three years ago and have sold both vouchers I received from renewing the card for morre than thriple the annual fee.

would you mind telling how much those vouchers are worth? unrestricted? Usually companion tickets can only be use with specific classes of service.

the delta skymiles gold card annual fee is actually $85. maybe I'll upgrade to the platinum card after one year.

where do you sell your companion ticket? i stupidly let mine expire from last year...stuck it in my laptop bag and forgot about it. it would be nice to make some money back on that annual fee.

this deal is good IF you're planning on using those free miles before 2 years or so. Its even hotter if you use it within the first year. The $85 annual fee is a big turn off for subsequent years of use after the first.

I just get the card and use it for only the first year. There are plenty of other ways to earn miles. Change telephone long distance provider is one of the best way. the poll at miles.hotdealz.com shows more than 70% people have earned 25000 or more miles in the past two years.

Someone who took this offer before told me a trick to avoid the $85 annual fee following your first year

Just call customer service within 30 days, when you get the bill showing the annual fee charged, and say you want to cancel the card. and they will ask you why, just say it's due to the annual fee. it's likely they will waive the annual fee at that time.

I have had delta gold for 3-4 years and have 200k miles from purchases and flying.

I recently asked if I could have the platinum card on a call disputing a bad merchange charge, AND they answered yes without even hesitating, apparently my history with them and my spending amounts made it a no brainer. Probably due to all those AnAndTech deals I have done. :)

Anyway the BVG is awesome, now if you want something thats a new product, you don't have to wait for the cheapest price you can get, like all these new digital TV hd tuners I see and drool over.

On the topic of the annual fee, they issue me a regular gold amex, which i am changing the flavor to the preferred rewards version, from the prefferred shopper version they issue as the norm. ON that card you get 2 miles for alot more than just a few things and get 2 points/miles for each dollar, supposedly it can be almost all you spend on it. AND those points/miles are transferrable to ANY airline their which is pretty large.

That way you arent tied to a specific airline if you move.

I am told if you get a card for you small business there is NO annual fee and even more miles are given.

I have never seen it mentioned, but there is a board that seems to be something of secret that discusses most ALL the airlines and their cards and ways to make medallion and earn base and bonus miles. There is ALOT of info on this board, ALOT. Here is a link to the Delta section:
Delta FlyerTalk Link

There are a TON of great tips on making medallion, bonus milkes, double and even triple base miles and posts from very veteran flyers with the airlines.

Air Canada, Air France, Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, America West, American Airlines, British Airways, British Midland, Cathay ,Pacific Airways, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, KLM, LatinPass, Lufthansa, Northwest , Qantas Airways , SAS,
Singapore Airlines, Southwest, Thai Royal Orchid, United, US Airways, Virgin, Aer Lingus, Alitalia, Finnair, Iberia, LOT Polish, TAROM Airlines
Air China, Asiana, China Airlines, China Southern, EVA Air, JAL, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines Other Middle East, Africa Frequent Flyer
El Al, Emirates,South Africa Airlines , Aero California, AeroMexico, Air Jamaica, AirTran, Aloha Airlines, BWIA, Mexicana

There are also entire sections on Hotels and Car Rental, Credit Cards, blah blah all miles and reward related. Everyone I know of that travels alot loves the tips on the board. There is ALOT in these pages on the Flyertalk board its the only decent airline forum I have seen so far.

Anyway, the amex stuff I am thinking of was in the Delta section NOT the credit card section.

But the Amex Rewards Plus Card on this page lists 2 points per dollar charges the first year and 1.5 point thereafter if I am reading the site right.
Amex preferred Rewards Card

Now the fee for this card is high , like 150, but I am just answering your question, so people please don't flame me. But the benefit would way exceed that if you use the card. Usually if you already have one flavor of Gold Card or Platinum they will change for it I am told. But personally I like being able to tranfer my points/miles to ANY AIRLINE partner to use.
I think the Amex Small Business card does the same or better yet does it beyond the first year and that card has no fee.

Lists alot of the different Amex flavors

sounds interesting. what happens after 1 year and u decide to cancel? do u loose the points? what's an ez way to accumulate pts? 25000pts looks hard to get if pts arent the ez to get. that's why i like Southwest 4 roundtrips = 1 RT ticket to anywhere SW flies to. ^_^x no annual fee either.
