Note that HCC is one of the five largest community colleges in the nation. And they have had more than their share of scandals lately.

Some other news coverage:

“He never put out to voters that he was white,” Austin said in a statement. “The problem is his picture was not in the League of Voters (pamphlet) or anywhere. This is one of the few times a white guy has pretended to be black guy and fooled black people.”

Wilson called Austin’s remarks racist.
Austin tried to answer the mailer with his own fliers showing Wilson's face, calling him a "right-wing hate monger" and saying he "advocated bringing back chain gangs to clean highways." But the campaign clearly caught him off guard.

"I don't think it's good," he said. "I don't think it's good for both democracy and the whole concept of fair play. But that was not his intent, apparently."

Just how much a role Wilson's mailers played in the campaign is unclear. Other incumbents running for re-election were forced into runoffs, perhaps because the community college system has come under intense criticism for insider business deals and spending money on overseas initiatives. And after 24 years in office, Austin's name should have been somewhat familiar to his constituents.
Sounds like this could have been handled better.

Then again, didn't some one pretending that you could keep your health insurance recently win a national election?

In other news, conservatards are stupid.

A news article about an African-American making the claim that African-Americans did not do even the most fundamental of research on an election, as well as inferring that African-Americans vote primarily based on skin color...

And that is your only comment?

Wow, that's crazy, sad, and funny at the same time.

I really don't feel sorry for the electorate though. I do agree that deception undermines the idea of democracy, but really so does voting on someone based on flyers and ads. If they voted for him based on his stance on different issues then democracy was served regardless of race. If they voted for him based on smiling black people in ads, they get what's coming for being so uninformed.

It reminds me of the movie where the guy with the same name as the former politician that had died wins as they didn't post his picture and removed the "re" part of reelect signs they already had made.

DominionSeraph is incapable of anything else due to a very limited intellect and it seems to be getting worse.

Wait a second. . . Are we supposed to be outraged over the use of African Americans in stock photos used during the campaign, or rampant racism amongst African American voters?

or the African-American opponent who believed he should have been the winner based on the color of his own skin?

What a great experiment. Funny as hell. Somebody should run as a Democrat, while really a Republican. We talk about RINOs, but are there any DINOs?

Is conservatard--not a real word--the only large word you have in your vocabulary?

Advanced search > conservatard + dominionsereaph = 74posts
Advanced search > conservatards + dominionsereaph = 139 posts

That is over 200 posts in a 7000 post history using a variant of the word. This makes you a vocabutard.

Back to the thread there isn't much meat in the article. I don't particularly doubt that low information voters can be swayed by something stupid like race, a few bucks spent on mailers and extremely simple deception swaying their vote. People vote stupidly all the time. It's not just race, there are others who vote along party lines no matter what always. All of these people are to be grouped together into the stupid pool, they a key reason why democracies are not perfect.

Don't know if it's possible there, but a recall effort would definitely get a lot of traction considering the circumstances.

I seriuosly doubt there's a recall provision for the Board of Trustees - Houston Community College.

Thanks for that. It's 2 AM here, I'm sleepy and yet I'm attempting to multi-task some stuff that's got a deadline that's about to pass me by AND post on ATPN while waiting for some intermittent compiling to get done. I still don't know how I get myself tangled up like this. :D
