Hello. I have some questions about some graphic probs I am seeing in games. First of all, I was hoping the new Direct X 9.0 and ATI catalyst drivers version 3.0 would fix the problems but I STILL have flashing textures in Mafia. I don't know if that means its a buggy code or what. I have tried the 2.5 catalysts and I had flashing textures. Other game I have tried is Aliens versus Predator 2. Game runs great, no flashing textures, however there is one annoying graphical glitch I tend to see in dark areas. It is these white dots that usally connect in a line.

Sys Specs:

Pentium 4 2.53Ghz
ASUS P4PE
Radeon 9700 Pro
Enermax 431 W PSU
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
512 Megs of Crucial DDR PC 2700
Win XP SP1

Any ideas what these dots mean and how to fix them?? They tend to appear on in dark areas. I hate to have wasted 350 bucks on a card that cannot give me flawless performance. Perhaps this happens on Nvidia cards as well. If anyone can help me with these issues, I would greatly appreciate it. Here is a link to another website on where I posted this issue. It has a picture of what I am experiencing.

Sorry I can't help. Do they appear in the same area? I would hope it's a driver issue and not a card problem.

For what it's worth I've had the same problem with Mafia and my 9700 Pro. I haven't tried the new drivers, downloading them right now.

With some of the other buggy things I've seen in Mafia, it could just be the game. Although I've had some other white-dot type of artifacts
like you're seeing in other games with this card too. Didn't have any of these problems with my GeForce4 either :(

White dots are often BSP holes caused by poorly joined togethe thingies(brushes, textures, and othe stuff) in maps. If what you are seeing is BSP holes, only the game maker can fix them. That's not to say that BSP holes are the problem, but they may very well be.

Thank you all for your replies. I was hoping I could resolve this issue because I really feel this card has potential. I love the performance I get from it, minus the graphic anomalities of course.

my roomie had some graphical glitches in hitman2 and went to the directX tab, then hit the capatibility button and turned off some pixel (hell im not at my comp so i cant tell you) centering or something and it fixed his problem... Then again it wasnt on by default so the knumbskull had to turn it on in the first place....

A friend of mine calls it geometric cracking. It where the textures are cracking. I have seen this happen in Hitman 2 and MOHAA. It's very annoying and quite detracting from game play. Is there a way to stop this??? I hear less problems with this with NVIDIA cards.
