I'm so sick of hippies blaming humans for everything that goes wrong with the animals, weather, planet etc. I mean, what the hell are we supposed to do? Where are we supposed to live that won't bother some frickin animal or plant? Jeez people, its life, get over it.

So you say we have no affect?

If we do have an affect, is it wrong to state it?

What if the affect we have is getting worse, should we ignore it?

I think what he means is that the nature of being a human and our lifestyle is going to kill off animals no matter what. And unless all the hippies and animals lovers produce 0 pollution they should shut up because they're adding to the problem every time they drive to work, or buy a packaged item, or turn on their computer etc.

If that's what he is saying, sounds like "ignore" the problem.

There's plenty you can do to decrease human-caused species extinction. For example you can not support logging of rainforests, which is not a sustainable use of resources due to the nature of those environments. You can not release your pet fish into the local lake to be "free", causing a massive proliferation of an invasive species. You can poison or burn invasive weeds. You can reduce water pollution. You can reduce CO2 emissions to slow global warming.

We're just doing so a lot better than nature does, at least on a regular basis.

I guess we could just call humanity the next mass extinction catalyst. In the past, we may have had meteorites, huge volcanic eruptions, massive climate shifts, and hydrogen sulfide eruptions from the ocean. But now there's us. Just tack "humanity" onto that list. Yay, we made the cut as one of the most destructive forces in the planet's history!

They are not extinct, they just left the planet. So long and thanks for all the fish!

Agreed... they tried to warn us.
:) I loved that bit, especially the part about how humanity thought it was superiour because it had accomplished things like "the wheel, New York, wars, and so on, whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time" and the dolphins thought they were most intelligent for "precisely the same reasons."
Mindless pursuit of happiness seems to often lead us to acts of violence. Sad, really.
