I'm trying to figure out if it is legal or not to have white blinkers in Washington State.

Anyone have any info on this?

It probably isn't legal. I've gotten safety recall notices for my Civic, because some of them were sold without the orange strip inside.

I don't think they'd do a national recall on them, if only a few states required the orange strips.

They are not legal. It's a Federal law, not a state one.

Federal motor vehicle standards require that the front directional indicator lights be amber, and that the rear directional indicator lights be either amber or red. This has been true since FMVSS 108 came into effect in 1968.

Prior to 1968, it was legal for front directional lights only to be white. By 1963, most of the US auto industry had voluntarily adopted amber front indicators, and in 1968, white indicators became illegal for all vehicles in the US.

A long while back, some fscking kids broke my front corner lights with BB guns, so when I bought the replacements I got Euro corner lights. I live in Ohio, however I have never been stopped or asked to do anything about my Indicators despite my usual encounters with officers and many times traffic officers have parked next to me or were standing outside the car next to their cars. The only reason I did it is because on my car, the orange corner lights are really ugly, I never bothered to ask, however I would sure comply if told otherwise.

Lenses can be white, the light must always be amber up front. That is the rule someone had on a motorcycle forum, seemed to be pretty much the same cross country.

MINI offers white blinkers as an option. They don't say whether or not the bulbs are amber.

If they sell the car in the US, the bulbs have to be amber. Otherwise the car does not meet Federal requirements and is not legal for on-road use anywhere in the USA.
