hi all,
couldn't leave my opinion off this one. i bought a set of the klipsches bout 5 months ago, one of the best investments i've made in computers. i haven't had any trouble with hissing, popping, boomy bass, or anything. as far as the complaints that gt poses, one would be much better informed to peruse the bulletin boards at www.klipsch.com to see how they are adressed. as far as sound quality goes, these speakers sound rich, loud, and clear. i'm certainly no audiophile, as my meager student existence can't support it, but every person who hears these speakers has been bowled over by the sound. i say never take the best or the worst comments about a product, especially something as subjective as sound, though they do help for serious problems. i'd recommend the 250 klipsches over even 150 dollar anything else. they play games, dvd's and music cd's beatifully. you can't go wrong, and klipsch is offering free shipping.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAH told y'all, promedia's suck compared to midiland s2 4100! madcowz knows what he is talkin about 😀
but i have to give a nod to headphones, with $150 sets you can get the sound quality rivaling $1000 home audio systems. again, promedias SUCK compared to the midiland 4100's 😎 diamondaudio has a sale on them, you can snag a set for $200 😉

eh? We're talking 2 sets of the 4100's for 400 total or so if your lucky. Comparing that to a 4 speaker set for 250 that has a slightly better sub is unreasonable. I could just get some expensive home theater speakers and laugh in your face while saying the 4100's suck. We're talking bang for buck.. and the klipsch definetly have it.

its the quality that counts, not quantity. the 3d sound crap is so overrated; what game now really uses eax or a3d to full potential? q3 only supports a3d, runs like sh!t with it on. UT a3d makes any computer crawl and eax makes it sound rather odd. in HL, same happens as in UT except the EAX is really overexaggerated. if you are in da market for movies, simulating the missing center channel on the klipsch doesnt make it a whole lot better than 2.1. the point i am making is not to be fooled by higher RMS rating on the klipsch. sound quality wise the midiland/diamond excels by far.

Yes, ignorance is bliss...
Don't get me wrong, the Promedias sound nice, but they are not close to best. Those who own them praise them probably b/c they were a big step up from their old systems and they have yet to hear even better.

Anyways, brotherman: which speakers did you upgrade to and how do you like them?

3d sound does matter. Games like thief use it to great effect, and 2 speaker setups cannot compare in this aspect. Also, 4 speakers (or 5) are better for dvd playback. You cannot argue with this.

By the way, did you even bother to read the 2.1 klipsch review on gamersdepot?

sorry, i dont try reviews from subpar websites. dont you tell me you play theif everyday... i am sure you have better things to do with your computer.
madcowz: i upgraded to a set of midiland s2 4100... currently in the process of gettin a DTS home theater setup 🙂

Subpar websites? Its a decent website by any account. and no, i probably watch dvd's more on my computer then I play games😛 Have unlimited rental at netflix so that isn't so hard.

And i have to say, no wonder you were so impressed. Moving up from ac48's arghh.. i hate altec lansing. And you even had two sets, manually synching volume controls, what fun.

hey, i did listen to promedias so i know what they sound like. at the same time, i do agree acs48s sound pretty bad, hell even the aura aspect30/50s sound hell a lot better.
btw, how does that netfix thing work? i better make a use of my dvdrom drive 😉

Netflix is great🙂 Buying dvd's is for shmucks🙂hehe anyhow, you jsut sign up for an unlimited account. Mine is 20 dollars a month and allows for 4 dvd's out at any time. They send you dvd's in special envelopes. You just toss these back into a mailbox when your done(prepaid). there are no late fee's or time limits, but the faster you send them back, the faster you'll get more to see.

They don't always have dvd's in stock so you create a list of dvd's you'd like to see. That way they just go down the list until one is in stock and that gets sent to you. The system works pretty well. If you live in california its faster. I used to buy dvd's, and have 80. I just found that i never watch them again really so its better to rent.

I don't understand how you can say that Klipsch sucks. They are if not the best than damn close to the best speaker company out there. How can a speaker company that makes just speakers not know what they are doing? Anyone who knows anything about audio know Klipsch. These Video cirrus logic whatever sounds like a Cirwin Vega sister company. Come on. Look at the drivers on anything else and then on the Pro Media's, notice the Klipsch's have rubber surronds versus foam and poly or other plastic cone versus paper.

StickHead, they are all great speakers, i only meant it in comparative terms. sure beamers suck compared to ferraris 🙂

I have listened to everything here and all of you have brought up good points.

I don't think the Klipsch suck bu they have the same hiss that every speaker I have ever seen has so I hate that. I think the BAs seem like nice speaks but i have yet to hear them and same for the midiland products.

I would be interested in the midilands but I have a question.

Am I going to be bothered by the fact that these do not have surround speakers??

I am currently using Altec AD880s.

Greg

Hey...check out these now speaker's from Boston Acoustics....

The Boston DPS5.1 is an integrated Dolby® Digital sound system designed as an audio upgrade to PlayStation® game consoles. The DPS5.1's six-piece surround configuration, versatile audio inputs, and compact design make it a perfect companion to the PlayStation2. The DPS5.1 accepts signals from digital or analog sources, decodes them to produce six-channel surround audio, and provides all amplifiers and speakers for the six channels-no additional receivers or components are needed. The power section uses separate actively equalized amplifiers for each of the speakers, including the subwoofer. DPS5.1-compatible devices include PS2s, component DVD players, component CD players, DSS feeds, Hi-Fi VCRs, and more.

well the whole point i was trying to bring up by saying i was happy about ditching dually acs48s was that i dont miss the quad setup at all now that i have a quality 2.1 one. it could be just me, but i dont seem to be spending too much time playin '3d sound enhanced' games all that much. for mp3s tho, i could hardly tell the difference. without a proper DTS receiver, dvds dont sound that great anyway so quad setup is a moot point in my book.
