Whistler questions...

I have questions on Whistler if I download W2K drivers for all of my hardware will they work in Whistler I read on cnet that they would?? Do I install whistler on my other partition or right on my main drive?

Nate

If there is such a resource could someone refer me to a whistler installation site?

Beta1 for whistler came out recently. Unless you're a beta tester or have access to msdn or something, I doubt you can get it. Plus, its too early to use it, probably has lots of bugs in it. If you do install it, they recommend you install it to a different partition than where you have windows installed currently.

Beta 1 is a fairly stable OS as compared to previous OSs beta 1 issues. The code for Professional and Adv. Server is primarly Windows 2000 (for the x86 version), and the Personal has some features derived from 95/98/ME. If you have Pro. or Adv. Server you can probably use it on your default partition just fine. Installing Personal should *definately* be done on a different partition.

If you would have read the documentation that comes in the beta kit, you wouldn't be askings questions here.

I finally installed it but now I gotta get w2K drivers for my tnt2 and figure out how to get my @home connection back up..

Nate

I am using Pro on a BX machine I have with some fairly generic hardware and it picked it up and I didn't even have to install any drivers myself.

WARNING: Whistler Beta 1 and Office 10 Beta 2 will produce MASS errors!!!! 😀

MASSIVE PROBLEM!!!!!!! i cant get on the net....I have tried every way that I know how and nothing will work friend of mine a tech for @home is on with his but he is being a f*cking ass and wont help me out. Can one of you guys be a nice guy and help a frustrated dude out?

Hmm, just a question on Whistler. Assuming my current C: drive is WinME. Can I clone the drive with Norton Ghost and then install Whistler on the Clone drive and have Whistler use the Clone Drive as C? Or do I have to manually disconnect the cables each time I want ME or Whistler. Thanks.

No you can install it right on your C: drive or make another partition but you can access all of your windows files thru whistler.

Has anyone noticed that when you put a Whistler pro (workkstation) in an NT domain, it is identified as "Windows NT Workstation 5.1" ? I thought this was kinda ironic 🙂

Nateholtwurp You should try getting Software from a legitimate place in order to get support with your questions...also asking obvious question like you do makes me wonder where you would aquire the needed amount of braincells to even attempt to run sophisticated software like Win2K server.. 🙂

Nate,

Thanks for the info. If I had Whistler on the C: drive, wouldn't it mess up my WinME that is already there or does it have it's own registry and other files that are different from WinME?

Well, Whistler wouldn't let me install the 2K drivers for my Promise UDMA100 onboard (Asus A7V) it also wouldn't let me do the drivers for my TV card or my sound card (Diamond MM Sonic Impact S100). Got errors on all three.

They all worked fine in Win2000 SP1. Just thought I'd let you know.
