when i watch my router logs, right at the time the Win2k startup screen says "Preparing Network COnnections" it catches a packet headed for an IP in Redmond, WA. Two coworkers of mine have reported the same thing. I have corporate version, SP1

my 2428 installation just gone west after my attempted unsuccessful installation of usb web cam...

blocking its callback home is nothing rocket science...

anyways, could anyone tell the port win2k using when sending out the msg while booting...

Well after taking the idwlog out of startup mine no longer sends anything out to the outside. I have not seen Win2K send anything out either.

interesting. that means that you would need to have your firewall up and running before explorer to block the packets, unless the firewall is on another machine (your gateway?). Or you could run it in a VMware vm with a nt or linux firewall ;)

Well now when I set up Whistler I do all the reg edits then I delete idwlog out of startup before I plug in the network cable.
