Whiskey

So I've been a cheap whiskey + coke guy since college, upgrading to Jack when I felt frisky. I wanted something more so I bought Makers Mark tonight (not a huge upgrade). What's the best way to enjoy this? I assume one the rocks?

If you're drinking anything mixed with Coke stick with cheap whiskey. If you're paying for the good stuff then neat, rocks or a splash of water. With bourbon a twist is also acceptable.

Makers Mark is infinitely better than that crap that you have been drinking. I perfer it with just a few ice cubes. No need to mix it with anything.

Makers Mark is probably the best value out there. Going cheaper means horrible flavors and a harsh bite. Going more expensive gives you very little other than some subtle flavor changes.

Whisk(e)y is a generic term that covers the process of distilling from several grains and styles. Irish, bourbon, rye, Tennessee, and scotch(whisky) are all whiskey.

I love Makers Mark with just an ice cube. Look up Maker's on Wikipedia too - there's a pretty cool story behind Maker's origins and eventual sale.

Curse Minneapolis and it's stupid liquor laws. I really want to grab a bottle now but I don't get off until 11 and the stores close at 10...

I much prefer Knob Creek to Makers Mark, and I think the price is similar, but it's been awhile since I've bought either. I'm not the biggest bourbon drinker.

makers is a wheated bourbon, so it's on the sweet side and not as complex as a rye bourbon.

makers is good, enjoy it how you want. a makers and coke is great, also great with a few cubes in a nice highball glass.
also, crown is good and not expensive. I do like gentleman jack on the rocks once in a while too.

I to, prefer scotch, but heck... sometimes Whiskey just has to do. Some people pour their whiskey onto their BBQ MEATS. I donno, I prefer tango'ing w/ some beer if I wanted to do that.

A bourbon is a whiskey. It's called bourbon whiskey. Mash must be 50% corn, aged at least two years in a new charred white oak barrel, barreled at no less than 160 proof and bottled at no less than 80 proof. Otherwise it isn't a bourbon whiskey and can't be called such.

Jack Daniels is a charcoal filtered sour mash Tennessee whiskey. It also happens to be incredibly tasty and my drink of choice.

So a bourbon is a whiskey but a whiskey isn't necessarily a bourbon.

I personally love Maker's Mark. I've been a fan for years. I notice a definite change in flavor between mixing say Jack or Crown with Coke and mixing Maker's with Coke. I even notice a flavor change when mixing other bourbons over mixing Maker's.

If you like bourbon and maybe want to try a bit of a sweeter flavor with it, try out Jim Beam's Red Stag. It came out last year and is an 80 proof black cherry infused bourbon. It's become a favorite of mine lately. Granted it might be too sweet for some. I think it works good as a shot or mixed with Diet Coke since mixing it with Coke is too sweet for me.

I was at the liquor store yesterday and the guy recommended I might like to try out Woodford. It was a bit more expensive than what I wanted to spend as I was already spending $200 there so I didn't pick up a bottle. But it's reviewed well and I think I'll try it next time.

I personally am not a fan of any whiskey straight, but that's at least partly due to my having some stomach issues and straight whiskey causes me to have bad acid reflux.

Woodford is a good whiskey.. I have a couple fifths on reserve in the cabinet.
