I'm not surprised in the least. I remember the pastor and few others from my mom's church in Maine going on warpath every Xmas and Easter. As I recall, they refered to Santa as "The Big Jolly Thief." That's just sad.

ha ha.. Reminds me of this bible camp I worked at for a summer. The speaker wanted to make a point that Jesus paid for our sins when he died on the cross, so he had all the kids write down their name, and staple it to a wooden cross, to signify that our sins were "on the cross" with Jesus. He then proceeded to destory the cross and "Sins" by burning the entire thing. I have never seen anything so foolish as that cross standing there, doused in Gas and burning up. some people are either short-sighted or entirely stupid!
it is no surprise to such intolerance and hatred of a religious group exemplified by stereotypical thinking by a few individuals who seem to have no other way to raise thier self-esteem than by engaging in the same type of behavior they in their own type of self-righteousnss deride others for.

Yes, very true GruppenFuhrer Shadowhawk. Criticizing Jews and Christians is verboten, but we can demean those untermenschen Muslims and other "brown people" (if they can even be considered people) all we want.

As if the "Passion of the Christ" isn't enough horse crap, we are going to whip a figure of a bunny so kids of all ages can see how medieval torture and public humiliation really work!
I think we should have a Chrismtas party where we crucify Santa in Times Square and then force everyone to sing Silent Night and pray. How dare anyone stray from the bible beating fundamental "meaning" of these holidays!! ya ve vill show dem vat is Right! In fact, let's just can this PC crap and go crusading again. Oust the heathen from all corners of the land! One Christian Nation to rule the world!

I'm neither a lefty nor am I "defending" Islam. But there you go again, criticizing Islam.

Well you didn't post to the compass thread, so based on the history of your posts, you sure act like a lefty.
And yes, I'm criticizing Islam. Islam has a rampant virus running through it, fundamentalism. When christians start crashing airplanes into the mecca, call me. When christian preachers around the world en masse start calling for the extermination of other races, call me.
I criticize any religion that demeans women (can only think of a few of those - such as apistolic christians, or Nazarene), supports terrorism (can only think of one of those), or does otherwise nasty things.
But but but I thought those political compasses were fundamentally flawed. Maybe you have never thought of people with moderate views.... everyone who disagrees with your right-wing views isn't an imminent threat, and isn't a left wing liberal. I criticize any religion that burns crosses and tortures Easter Bunnies in front of Children.

It's funny. Liberals try to be perceived as people concerned with equality and civil rights because they're always fighting for gay rights and profane expressions of art, yet they're such incredible bigots when it comes to things like religeon. Had this post been about blacks, I dare say BDawg would have been shunned by all. Hmm....it makes you wonder if liberals are really for equality and civil rights or just against morality.
I noticed that when I responded to your query on the why it was flawed, nary a peep. If it would make you feel better, I'd take it again. I took it last time. I did take the second one.
So maybe if you have moderate views, you should represent them? Finding every opportunity to criticize christians while whistling and checking your watch when Islam comes up is quite far from a moderate stance.

And for the record, I have a problem with ALL organized religions. I don't necessarily defend Islam, however I refuse to paint them all as fundamentalists or extremists. Just like I don't blame all Christians for the acts of a few ignorant fools.
No, you don't. Please only go through the last...oh 40 or 50 years, since most of us have been alive since then. Because, you see, that's all the past. And most of us live in the present, and intend on living in the future. That "but you guys did nasty things in the old days" argument don't fly anymore, if it ever did.
And again, my point is not which religion is better or worse, correct or incorrect, but rather which one is plagued with fundamentalism, and, except for the most liberal interpretations (which represent the minority), misoginistic (sp) and anti-semite. And that is something that the liberals love to ignore, almost as much as they love to point out the shortcomings of christianity and judaism. Hypocrisy at it's absolute finest. Are you going to deny that? Are you going to say that the majority of the world's 1 billion muslims treat women as equals? Don't hate jews? Or are they a few ignorant fools? stalin, mao, and pol pot(just to name 3...) all had problems with organized religion too. they even did something about it. after all what better way to kill religion than to kill the religious? very pragmatic of them..and they would all tell you there was nothing morally wrong in what they did.

So I guess history is "history" eh Alchemize? I sure wouldn't want to back further than a half century to see how history may have gotten us to where we are today. I wouldn't want to say, go back and look at how England fused together a patchwork of incompatible tribes and religions to form present-day Iraq. Nope, I guess it wouldn't be useful to understand all those centuries of human conflict and how it helps explain why things are how they are today.
Well, you could certainly argue that Christianity is plagued with fundamentalism too, however those fundamentalists (for the most part) are non-violent. That's certainly a good thing. I do indeed think Islam has some serious problems, and I do have SERIOUS issues with the way they treat women, etc. I guess I'm wondering what liberals around here are defending those particular practices? Are you just womping on your straw man here Alchie?
