i have two identical monitors.
one frequently emits a very high pitched whine. so high pitched that several friends of mine cant hear it. but i know its real and its coming from the monitor cuz it goes away when i turn off the monitor. a high pitched eeeeeeee tells me something is wrong, but it actually only occurs when the monitor's refresh rate (in advanced display properties) is set to 60hz. at higher refresh rates, the whine goes away. no other setting changes affect the whine. it seems weird that at a more stressful refresh rate, the monitor doesnt whine. the whine is similar to the very faint noise you hear when you turn on a normal tube tv, except continuous and whinier. the other identical monitor operates at 60hz just fine (i dont know why they are at 60hz, seems to be windows default and whenever i change it to 70hz it likes to go back to 60hz eventually), but it is hooked into a different type of video card...
should i be concerned?
in the past, the same monitor that whines has had a faint horizontal lining running down the monitor (like an interlace efect or something), but this comes and goes too, and is also related to refresh rate. both monitors are MAG Innovision 19 inch, and only about a year old
