You can have my dinosaur burner when you pry it from the cold dead hands!

Actually I wouldn't mind an electric car as my daily driver. Unfortunately with 4 kids no one has come out with an all electric mini-van yet. The new Pacifica is step in the right direction though.

While you guys are back on coal
...the Netherlands, intends to phase out all fossil fuel-powered automobiles by 2025

Why is the topic coal, but the post automobiles?
Don't think you've discovered coal powered autos.

Do you think the US is dropping EVs? What a strange idea....

Norway has approximately 3 million cars total. To get 40% of new cars to be electric doesn't take much work.

Thanks to its lucrative offshore oil and natural gas business, Norway can afford to promote e-mobility with generous incentives, including the considerable bonus of exemption from a 25% sales tax.
LOL, tout clean vehicles but fund the subsidies that make it happen with oil and gas sales. That sounds similar to us promoting our reduced manufacturing pollution by sending it to China where regulations are guidelines at best.

I would argue it takes the same man the same amount of work all other things being equal.. populus of 200 or 300 million is not in the equation.
If there ever was something to spend oil money on it would be green conversion... I must agree with myself here.. :)

You guys have Elon Musk who is a big driver(bigliest?) in this race.. its just amazing that you have something as visionary as Tesla and SpaceX .... and at the same time climate change deniers and pro fossil fuel guys pulling your country in opposite directions at the same time.

First we ought to take a look at how the electricity is being generated in various locales. It's conceivable that if some areas were to convert to electric vehicles to soon, net carbon output could actually increase. For areas served disproportionately by fossil fuel generation (coal especially,) hybrids are probably a much better answer in the medium-term.

I spend the weekend modifying my 7.3 liter diesel powered 6,000 pound truck to use MORE fuel. The day that I can get that much power and utility out of an alternative fueled vehicle that can travel at least 1,000 miles a day will be the day I will start to consider alternative fueled vehicles. I will almost certainly never consider a battery powered vehicle though, give me hydrogen fuel cells at least.

Edit: Oh and all that for under $5k as well.

It sounds great but I am not so sure. Once fossil fuels are used less and electrics more; subsidies on electrics will disppear, electricity prices will rise, battery prices will increase and oil will become cheaper. This will push the fossil fuels to once again be the cheaper alternative and back to fossil fuels we go.

No. The point of subsidies is the fund something until it gets to commodity status. Once the manufacturing is up high enough prices will stay low.

doubtful. But its easier to clean 1 source then millions.

It is like extracting the metals from the ground for the batteries in these cars is free.

America is great. We have a big country and lots of innovation and smart people. But we have the freedumb caucus as well. They drag us down but what can we do?

It costs more than money. These cars arent as green as some want to believe.

but they are more green then others. The real solution is to wipe out the human race. But since we don't actually want that we need to find the least damage solutions.

If CO2 could be removed from any exhaust, stationary or otherwise, we'd likely not be discussing this at all.

here learn:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_scrubber

and why we don't just slap a co2 filter on your car:

There are a few limitations to putting filters in the exhaust. The limitation comes from the same reason the engine stops when you block the exhaust pipe...
These filters act as an obstruction restricting the flow from the engine, and if the flushing of burnt fuel from the engine cylinder is not done properly, you will lose engine power and cause a lot more pollution. Since all the burnt CO2 is not properly sucked out, it changes the oxygen partial pressure in the engine cylinder which in turn affecting the air/fuel ratio for combustion.

So, these filters may actually end up causing more air pollution by trying to filter the exhaust. This is the reason partly the reason why there are 2 exhaust pipes for some sports cars .. lesser emission + no back pressure effect .. More cost ofc..

Lol @ Internet expert. Now show us all the carbon-neutral coal-fired power plants.

Poor form, I'll try harder next time.

Listen to me you dumb shit. The world is not black and white. there are shades of gray and this is one of them. You can manage waste at a large point source better then you can among millions of cars. I just showed you this. Now you want to move the goal posts. Go live in your dumb world but don't expect others to follow you.
