They are part of the problem too. All our bases are there. Lets just overrun them. They are weak and hire soldiers to fight their battles anyways. (Desert Shield/Storm - "Onward Christian Soldiers")

They treat women like crap too. Have telethons to help familes of suicide bombers / support their terrorist causes in palastine. Paid to fly Osama Bin Laden's family out of the US after 9/11. Offered 10mil to the victims of 9/11 and then said it was the US's fault for its policy towards palestine. Half the 9/11 bombers were from Saudia Arabia.. OSama is from there too.

If my facts are wrong please correct me. If im wrong and the Saudis are our friends please tell me why.

I just wanna see what other people think.

I agree in spirit.. Saudi Arabia is the cesspool from which fundamentalist Islamic Wahabbism has emerged. Like any toxic waste dump on the government's Superfund list, the world would benefit a great deal from a good cleanup operation.

But the French would scream bloody murder, for some reason..

Don't worry, if they got oil, the US will find a reason to go to war with them... and they have lots of oil...

Although i agree to some extent, let's find a way to replace our oil with something else, hydrogen or whatever, first.

If im wrong and the Saudis are our friends please tell me why.
they have been our allies for over 60 years. we have had american personnel in that country for nearly that long.
they give us a political toehold in the region, giving us important influence in regional economic issues. since the
saudis have been so open to america, what better way to influence their social policies ? would you rather have
them as our enemies ? how about an energy crisis every day of the week ?

we recognized long ago a simple equation: they sit on the largest known oil reserves (260 billion gallons), which,
if i recall, is only 40% of kuwait's total, and little more for iraq. with the oil and their strategic geographic position
and their antipathy for atheistic communism back in the day, they could be said to have been a 'natural ally'.
yes, they had their regional priorities. they meddled in their neighbor's business. wahhabism is a bastardization
of islam. they've had their shortcomings. but given their diplomatic value, which continues to this day (crown
prince abdullah's peace proposal is the strongest arab overture in many a moon), we wont be branding them
as terrorist supporters anytime soon.

and why don't we wipe out isreal and the west bank as well? All that is is a big problem and money pit for the U.S .. hmm, why not Iran too? I'm sure they are still pissed off at the states for helping out Iraq in that old war... maybe we should just test out all the nukes we have on the area... and yeah, personal gas stations!!! Wahooo!!

</sarcasm>

are you fishing for flames or is it just my imagination? I don't think that anyone should go after saudi arabia I think that we should worry about getting rid of small minded and bigotted people like you.

Damn!!! Its just a discussion.

I just wanted to get everyone's views. I heard a bunch of anti-Saudi stuff in an article I was reading and I wanted to hear the other side of the story.

I said.. just give me the facts and show me I'm wrong...

Oh well I guess i was asking for it :)

bingo. As Syz mentioned, there's more to this than just oil (although oil does play a huge part in all this)

Wouldn't it be better to come up with an alternative Fuel Source? That would change their status back to that of Desert Bedouins who have little or no say to what happens in the world.

Hmmm....alternate fuel source? Why we already have several. Sails on top of your SUV, thousand square foot solar collection panels on your roof. Oh I forgot...push lawn mowers w/o motors. Long list of these things....

Why don't we take George Washington's suggestion and keep our noses out of the affairs of foreign nations? $1.35 for a gallon of gas I can live with. Mile long lines for $5.00 a gallon gas, would make life difficult. I love the Saudis for their cheap oil....

Although i agree to some extent, let's find a way to replace our oil with something else, hydrogen or whatever, first.

That's exactly what we use oil for; its hydrogen content. The by-products are carbon and a minimal amount of sulphur. Energy cannot be created from nothing. If you want to do your part in minimizing the burning of hydrocarbons, stop using electricity, stop driving, and stop burning anything.

Wind farms are not feasible because no one wants their view obstructed by wind generators. (Nantucket Sound and Cherry Valley, NY are the most recent NIMBY)

Solar energy is not feasible because of the space required to generate commercial amounts of power.

Nuclear is the best option, but every one is scared of it.

Geothermal energy is not readily available because most of the activity takes place under thousands of feet of ocean.

Hydroelectric power generation has not increased because you have to dam up large rivers. This is truly a case of significant clean energy though.

Wave generators are not powerful or commercially viable.

Coal is very cheap, plentiful and very easy to get at.

Oil is almost as cheap, plentiful and relatively easy to extract.

Whale oil was phased out for obvious reasons.

Fuel cells still required hydrogen, even though they are many times more efficient than internal combustion engines. Also, I'm not completely happy with the thought of a hydrogen tank pressurized to 10000 or 15000 psi sitting behind me.

Hydrolysis requires large amounts of electricity to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen and the electricity was probably created by burning hydrocarbons. More hydrocarbons are burned in creating electricity than the yield of hydrogen from water.

Ethanol is a political pawn and totally ridiculous because the energy required to grow, fertilize, cultivate and refine the corn into ethanol far exceeds the energy extracted from the ethanol itself. It also takes up considerable acreage.

Instead of complaining about the use of hydrocarbons, start eliminating your own usage or please publish an alternative method for creating energy that will make everyone happy. That means you have to please the greens, liberals, NIMBY's and still produce enough energy to keep you warm in the winter, cool in the summer, cook your food, transport you to work, and entertainment for free time.

So, what do you greens and enviroweenies propose to use? Methane from your own sphincter?
