While Printing --> DC completly stops!

Hi!

When I print something my current DC project stops working. This happnes to me both with DPAD and LM. As I print about one hour per day it's one hour I lose for my DCs --> not acceptable 😉 It's an old Epson printer hook up via LPT1. I already checked if "background printing" has any impact on my prob but either checked or unchecked my DCs stop working. What puzzles me is the fact that even after I closed Word/Acrobat Reader and just the printjob is pending the DC are still paused. So it has to be the printer spool service or whatever that takes all the CPU power. Though when I check with taskmanager, it says 100% still with DC but there's no work done!

Any help apprecited! 😀

Sorry, neither of both is possible for me. I don't share the printer in my small home network so I guess that's not the problem. But if u want send me your USB printer I'd be happy to give it a try 😉

I don't have a printer. It eats up plugs that can be used for crunchers. 😀

I've found the $30 lexmark printers from wal-mart do well, everytime you run out of ink, go buy another printer, it saves you about $33 each time, since you can buy a printer w/ink cheaper than just buying the ink.

dont waste your money on a lexmark. they are the WORST printers out there and you'd be better off just getting an old school typewriter and drawing any images yourself!

on a side note, are you running all of those dc programs on "background" priority? all i can comment on is DPAD since im not familiar with the software for the other program, but what i would suggest is try setting the priority to "low" in your config.txt file and see if that makes any difference at all. im thinking that since DPAD is set at such a low priority in being "background" that its just being killed by the printer spooler when printing. try that and see if it makes any difference.

And we wonder why our landfills are filling up......

I changed the priority of DPAD to "low" but that didn't work. Same thing for Lifemapper. Well, it looks like there's no workaround for that. Can any of guys with an USB printer plz tell me if the same thing happens to them? Cause mine is (as said before) on LPT1.

Hey Christian, don't know how much you'll gain by trying this...but have you tried printing from dos window...like: C:\>dir >lpt1, to see if it still happends...

Oh and you propably allready tried removing and re-installing the printer driver...and rebooted the pc...😉 I've got a lot of printers at work, printing to usb and lpt1 and none of them have this problem. Although, one hp usb printer sometimes just puts jobs in the queue and doesn't print...but instead uses 100% cpu...

Strange Johan. When I redirect a dir command to my printer in DOS the DC doesn't stop. There really isn't any driver I can install as my Epson Stylus Color 600 hasn't got any XP drivers but is running with the WindowsXP internal ones. So ... any ideas now as I know that a DOS box won't suck up 100% CPU ?!

If that works, we can rule out the printer and the lpt port being the prob, cause it prints directly to the port, not using any driver or crap like that...😀 When the problem occurs, can you maybe stop and start the print spooler service to see if something happends.

Start > Settings > Printers, try right clicking the printer and go to properties. See if there's an advanced tab and see if you can select 'print directly to printer' instead of spooling.

Don't know if this will help or not, but it's something to try.

@bunker: Dude, that's it!! Now the spooler doesn't get loaded. I now have to leave Word/Acrobat Reader open till the print is finished BUT the DCs will continue working through the whole printing process! Thx buddy!😀

Thx guys fo your help! Free  for all! 😉

That's just a suggestion I make to people still using ancient printers I've never actually met anyone that wastefull. I actually have a z65, and my company pays for my ink. and Lexmarks are great printers, why do you think dell re-badges lexmarks as their own? not to mention they have a far higher picture quality page per page vs. HP and Epson, at the time I tested "photo quality" printers (HP vs. Lexmark), the (aging) low end lexmark z35($35) had far higher quality than the high end HP 7660 ($200) although the printing was about 50% slower with the lexmark, testing was with both printers set to thier maximum quality and tested using kodak ultima photo paper. needless to say I promptly returned the HP (my 1st and likely last HP purchase) to Staples and bought thier last z65.

I broke down and bought a real printer.
Lexmark Optra S 1855 (18ppm)
w/duplexer and even added an envelope
feeder after a while. The toner costs
about $70 and will print approx. 20,000
sheets. I use these printers all day at work
and they're great. No color, but 18 ppm
of mono print, printed front and back.....

Hay
Cheers
