This is the case i am planning on buying. I also plan on purchasing the new AMD Athlon 64, the new one that is designated for the socket 939... but the latter is not set in stone.

In short, i ask you, which motherboard should i purchase? i know that PCI-e does not yet exist for athlons... and in this i am concerned... perhaps i should go Intel just for the pci-e option? All this is very confusing and juxtaposes. Whether or not to go AMD desides whether or not i get PCIe, so ive been told... and that in turn decides the graphics card i am buying, although it will be a 6800 other way... only pcie is more future proof.

So, first off... which CPU? Once chosen, which complementing motherboard? Your reasoning will be much appreciated as i am an eager learner.

Thanks

I think the first question should be how often do you typically upgrade your PC?
if you do it often, just keep what you have in your sig.. and upgrade when the new PCI-E equipped AMD stuff comes out later on.
I typically upgrade the mobo/CPU/major stuff at least once a year, so for me, a few months back, I ordered a NF3 250 board, and an A64.. in another year's time, I'll upgrade it again, so PCI-E to me was not a big deal.. first off, PCI-E shows no benchmark gains over AGP, so really the only benefit is having it for future proofing.. but since I upgrade so often anyways, it really didn't even affect the purchase of the S754 mobo and CPU.
