there's the CNPS9500 AT which I guess is supposed to fit them- I'm pretty sure I read a review which used this

But it looks like overkill for a Conroe E6400... so what about the CNPS7700-Cu?

On the Zalman web site they make no mention of Core 2 Duo or Conroe... not sure what other name there is to specify those cpus

Anything that is compatible with socket 775 will work with Core2.

The CNPS-9500AT uses a 4-pin PWM fan for better RPM control.

So could I take that to mean that with that HSF it will likely spin slower and therefore quieter so it's a better choice for my HTPC?

Yes there is that and the fact that you might need a 4-pin PWM fan to get any control of the fans RPM. I know some Asus boards that use 4-pin CPU fan headers can also control 3-pin fans via a BIOS option but I'm not sure that?s the case with most other boards.

i'm using a 7700 right now and it fits fine. i've heard the 9500 cools quite a bit better though. Also, i've heard good things about the scythe ninja, especially for OCing conroes.

FYI, with my 7700, heat is limiting my e6400 to 3.08GHz @ 1.375V, so if you want to push it further than that, you may want to look into the scythe ninja or zalman 9500.

Ok cool, I went ahead and bought the 9500. It should just barely fit in my new HTPC case :)
