Which xbox mod chip?

I have an Xbox version 1.0 that I want to mod. I want to be able to run xbmc, emulators, and all the other cool stuff everyone is doing.

Which chip to I buy? Xecutor 3? Xenium?

What did you buy and why?

Do you care about being able to get on Xbox Live? If not, then why not just softmod it?

The softmod can do all that you mentioned plus more, and can be undone if absolutely necessary. The only drawback is not being able to get on Xbox Live.

For someone like me, playing actually Xbox games is the least thing I use my modded Xbox for, so the softmod works great.

XBMC > Emulators > Xbox Games. 🙂

That's not entirely true about not being able to get on Live with a softmod. My Xbox is softmodded with SID4.5 and I can play on Live just fine. I had to install a specific version of the softmod that allowed "dual boot" capabilities, not much different than the regular install though. Hit up http://www.xbox-hq.com and take a look at their softmod setup.

Ah, sorry for the confusion, then. I was unaware the newer softmod versions had a dual-boot configuration.

I had an Xecuter 3 that did everything I could have asked of it.

Of course, then one day I got up to hit the power button on the console and I shocked the heck out of it. It wouldn't power on again. I tried to troubleshoot the problem by buying spare parts on eBay but after a few weeks I gave up. Must have been some random capacitor or something and I'm not very experienced with those things. I've never gotten around to paying someone to fix it but I've always wanted to, XBMC is sorely missed.

Yep, completely doable. The method I use is the power button starts the mod software while using the disc eject button to power on the system starts the MS setup. Also, if you leave a game disc in the console and turn it on via the power button is bypasses the mod software and boots the console as normal. I haven't tried that method to play on Live as I've heard a couple differing things on it being detected. The disc eject works just fine for me.

I did the tsop mod with a toggle switch in the back to swtich between the bios.
This was before the mod chips came out and I only wanted xbmc anyway.
