Which X850xt pe Ati plantium to get

Having owned nothing but a Voodoo and a Nvidia Titanium 500 I thought I'd make the switch to an ATI (Pci)express card this time around. Of these 3 manufactures Sapphire, Powercoler, Ati, which card is the better one in terms of cooling, warranty and performance? They make little mention of the warranty on most sites on the Ati cards. Also which ones are on the .11 micron process or is that just for the 800xl? I Plan on running on an Amd 3500 so would I be gaining much getting the 850xt pe over the 800xl or would I be fill rate limited with this 3500? Hoping to eventually pick up a 3800 .90 winchester when they come out and price goes down. Also seems to me once the new ATi cores come out in a few months Nvidias SLI solution will be a thing of the past. They are probably trying to just dump as many GTs and Ultra cards as they can before a single chip solution takes over. ....Tempted to just wait to buy but I got to get Half life 2 up and rolling.

I would hate to reccomend ATI, as nvidia is better, but get the 1st party ones.

How can nvidia be better? The x850XT PE outdoes all nvidia cards.

For the OP, I'd say Sapphire.

I've never seen more than about 1 card in stock at a time though of anything above an x800xt ....

Heck for the price of an x850xt pe you could SLI 6800GTs and prolly save money...

EDIT: D'oh, nevermind; go for an x850xtpe; it's only 770 bucks at Newegg, but it IS in stock! 😉

Newegg isn't the end-all source of video cards you know.

X850XT PE PWNS the 6800U!!

and not all games show nVidia favoritism like Doom3 does

Pretty much all ati card manufacturers use the same design as the ATI brand name (besides HIS and a couple others). I just bought a connect3d x850xt pe for 499 and so far its been rock solid.

Yeah because that is definately a fair comparison. Not that Nvidia actually does have a fair comparison but i think we should wait until the refresh to compare. The only thing holding back the 6800's is the low fill rate as it has a very low core clockspeed.

For this round however, Nvidia although not necessarily winning in speed is much more future proof than the ATI cards due to SM3.0 support, dedicated Video Processor, comletely new architecture etc...

Built by ATI has the longest warranty (3 yrs) and you're guaranteed BBA card has the best components possible. Sapphire is usually considered 2nd best out of the three. I've heard they make lot of BBA cards but they also make some lower grade models for the Asian markets that find its way here. PowerColor is usually considered worst out of the three and used to make cheap quality cards in the past although it looks like they've vastly improved and make excellent cards now.

Given a choice at similar price points, I would take Built by ATI card without question over any other but usually BBA cards carry a premium.

Apply that to HL2 and ATI

well at least i'm like "oh i hate to recommend nvidia because ATi is number 1!"

Just get a vivo x800pro and unlock pipe lines into xt pe.. way cheaper.

if im correct, that only works with the AGP version and the X850XT PE is PCIEXPRESS

Yes I will probably go with ATI connect due to the longer 3 year warranty. Noticed at Monarch they are at 665$ and at FuturePowerPC.com they are 565$ with free shipping. Looks like the same card. Will probably buy within two weeks unless a better deal comes along.

I hope you are being sarcastic 🙂. I never thought I would hear the day when it is said that you can buy a top of the line card for ONLY $770. I remember when I got my top of the line TNT2 for like $150.

Yeah but $150 back then was pretty expensive too.

I jumped on the same deal you did, but in the ATI Controal Center it says "Built by ATI", and has no mention of Connect3D anyway. Is this normal?

I looked at Everest HOME, but it must not support this card yet, because it showed nothing.

HL2 > Doom 3
X850 XT PE > 6800 Ultra OC

This best deals for X850 XT PE's are at ebay. Yeah it's ebay, but prices rock and people are crazy.

Check It Out!

How long has it been since the 6800 cards came out, and just how many games get enhanced graphics because of SM3?

How many cards actually have working VP's?

Why does new architecture matter? ATi's is doing very well.

How many games use SM2.0 right now. Not too many. However the fact remains that it is more futureproof because of that. No matter if it is used yet or not.

Well all the VP's are working, except the 6800's cannot do WMV-HD. However in order to offload the work onto the VPU, microsoft must release the new WMV .dll as stated in AT Pure Video article.

I never said ATI isn't doing very well, i am impressed that they made such a flexible architecture which has scaled extremely well.

Another future proof feature i neglected to mention is support for 32bit FP.
