im getting a x800 xt pe soon and im planning to oc it.

im thinking about these 2 coolers

Arctic Cooling - ATi Silencer 4

the thing is that the zalman using alot of thermal paste as i have read. i have a 3.5 gram tube of AS5 right now that ive used once on my CPU but i dont think thats enough and ill have to sell out for a larger tube of AS5

Well I use the ATI Silencer 4 now on my x800xt with no problems at all. I am not familar with the zalman cooler so unfortunately I can't give you a comparison of the coolers.

The thing that I like about the Silencer 4 is that it has a bracket that cools the ram chips on the other side of the card. Not sure if the zalman does this.

If you do get the ATI silencer 4 you really have to get it on there tightly for it to be totally effective. When I mean tight I mean tight.
 
well the zalman comes iwth ramsinks. what kind of temps and oc u get with the silencer. and do i void my warrenty by taking off the fan?

And I could go a bit higher also ..well according to ATITool but there is no need at this point.

yes you void your warrenty if you remove the heatsink/fan


Edited: added new temps, tightened down the heatsink.
 
I ahve an x800 pro (unsuccessfull softmod) running at 540/540 with a moded ati silencer. What i did was take off their fan and shrouding and add my own 60mm fan right onto the heatsink. I run at:
Ambient: 30c
Idle 35C
Load: 42C

This coler is a beast as it is but with a simple mod like mine it is amaizing.
 
ok thanks for the info. Now if AS5 is out of the picture the Zalman is affordable. Any1 have this cooler and what are your temps and ocs? and how much did you guys get your ati silencer for? im leaning towards the silencer becuase of its easier installation
 
The new Zalman looks nice, but with the Arctic Cooler at half the price, why bother. BTW my load temps went from 72C to 54C with the AC4.
