which x-fi do you recommend?

What do you guys recommend I do? I am going to get a x-fi but am really torn between the platinum and the fatality.

Obvsiouly, the fatality, with its extra memory, sounds nice but do you guys think it is actually going to be used in games or is it just some selling gimick?

Also, who knows when the fatality will actually be released.

So should I just buy the platinum or hold off and wait for th fatality?

At this point in the game, I would hold out. Not necessarily for the fatality, but for the prices to drop in general. So it's really a toss-up. If you need x-fi right now, go for it. Personally, I will wait a bit for the prices to simmer.

Very true. While I am dying to play with one I need to have digital out but I refuse to pay so much for the higher cost models. When the prices drop or when (if) they come out with a basic model with digital out I may get one. I can't beleive they only put digital out on the $200+ models.

Why buy something that isn't even taken advantage of by 99% of all games out there? Are you buying an AGEIA physics card too?

You guys are cheapo's, $120 is cheap in my book for the XtremeMusic which = a Plat. without the IO internal drive and remote.

I have the Klipsch 5.1 Ultras to match one of these sound cards, if you have some cheap 2.1 setup, this seems like a lot possibly.

you know it's not really worth it unless you have a good sound setup right? the frame rate increase in games is also negligible. save your money for something else.

Do you by any chance have a SM3.0 video card?

I have a set of Pro Media 5.1's and they sound excellent thru the DFI nF4's onboard Karajan module. A lot of us play game using headphones, so spending a lot of cash on a sound card is a waste IMHO. If I want extreme high fidelity I go into the living room and listen to my reference home theater. 🙂

I will tell you this John, if you have a setup like the 5.1 Ulta's, they can take advantage of a good sound card, the AD2 ZS or XtremeMusic would be enough to make a difference.

John, you would almost defnitely hear a difference with your promedia (or any solid 5.1 system) over onboard sound, and if creatives hyped headphone features work half as well as some reivews suggest then playing with headphones may actualy see a bigger difference, (though neither would sound anywhere near comparable to your home theater)
