Which would you sell if you had both: 42" 1080p LCD or 42" 720p plasma

Keep whichever one you like better.

Well, I like the P.Q. of the Hitachi, but wonder if it's just not very future proof, 1080p vs 720p and all.

Also, not to purposefully sell a lemon (the tv works like new), but how long do plasma tvs actually last?

You're a lemon. Lemon.

Lemon party? 😛

I thought DLP's were cool until the first time I had to sit and wait without TV for a few days while a fucking 200$ replacement bulb came.

FUCK DLP's in their god-damned asses.

I'll be sticking with LCD from now on. Are there any planned maintenance costs associated with plasmas?

Thats what LED DLP's are for.

I think I would agree with the peeps recommending to sell both. A 4-year old plasma is based on fairly old plasma display panels (PDPs). New PDPs are much better with advanced electronics to make sure that image burn-in does not occur. I've talked to several PDP engineers: without smart electronics to prevent image burn-in there would still be burn-in. The Sylvania brand, like others have said, is not such a great brand and the video processing is probably very poor compared to models from other brands like Samsung or Sony. Even though the LCD TV is fairly new, it is probably using slightly older technology. Sell both and then get a new 1080p, 120Hz/240Hz, LED backlight LCD TV. Or two.

You probably can't tell much of a difference between 1080p and 720p on a 42" screen. If you like the picture quality on the 720p, and can probably sell the 1080p for more money, I would keep the 720p.

You can with BluRay or other true 1080P material. Especially if the source was originally shot in HD and not "upsampled to HD" like older movies are.
Older movies are not "upsampled to HD".

Since the LCD is newer, and 1080p, people will probably pay considerably more for it. And since at 42" the 720p will be virtually indistinguishable from 1080p, and since you like the picture on the plasma better, keep it and sell the LCD.
