I agree and this is why I'm interested in it.

The Rogue is basically the same MPG though.

why not get a real station wagon?

Higher ride height(visibility), higher seating position(first and second row comfort), and a higher cargo area(big dogs & boxy stuff) are all advantages of SUV's.

Plus, how many station wagons are really out there? There's Subaru but they really offer no gas milage advantage over a small SUV. VW is expensive and reliability is a wash. Same goes for all other Euro wagons.

The closest thing you get to a wagon for a domestic is the Dodge Hurst...err Magnum. Or the now dead Malibu Maxx (which I own).

If you're going to check out the Rogue, also check the Murano. Probably in the different class but the Toyota FJ Cruiser is a fun vehicle.
I've read the the FJ is not a practical daily driver plus it's a gas hog. Looks cool though.

Mine gets ~19 mpg. It really is an off-road first and urban/highway last vehicle. Gas mileage goes down the toilet at 65 mph and up. When the Brady wagon finally dies we'll get a Yaris or MINI for daily driving.
