thanks for the replies, let me clarify:
I have driven both vehicles, with autos only though so I would like to know more if anyone has experiences with the feel of the manuals. I personally disliked the 2003 350Z manual feel, the clutch pedal just never got comfortable for me, wondering if that is comparable to the 2005 G.
After driving both, I am undecided, they're very different vehicles and the thing is, I could see myself living with either one on a day to day basis.
Nismo: I was just thinking about 2 door RWD GTs, but I may look at the Legacy GT now that you mention it. The issue then becomes, at what point do I stop and start narrowing down the list again? Do I include the Mazdaspeed 6 and WRX(Don't care about insurance, I can get good prices through USAA) in there too then?
Let me put it this way, I'm a single, younger guy that needs a car for A to B transport. I will in all likelihood not drive all too many miles a year (probably 7K or so, I live minutes away from where I work) and theres a almost certain chance I'll get deployed to Afghanistan for 12-15 months at a time on a regular basis (making my miles/year owned average probably extremely low). I have no idea where I'll be stationed even 1 year from now so Traction control/stability control is a really nice bonus(also sadly, no convertibles on the chance I go somewhere hellishly cold), but I don't think I'll need AWD since I know how to drive.
I've narrowed it to those 2 choices, but if AT has any other recommendations, I'm willing to think about them too.
-Sporty
-Reliable (I have no patience to fix my cars anymore, got too much of everything else to do)
-No need for fuel efficiency or even to carry more than 2 people or have anything more than a modicum of practicality (still need to buy groceries once in a while)
-~$16-17K, with 50% of that cost financed (so no 1964 Mustangs or 1999 Corvettes)
-No FWD
-Preferably a very good looking car, though if it's extremely fun to drive, I can sacrifice some looks.
At this point I'm open to looking at options, I don't have to make a decision immediately, but by mid june at the latest, I will have to buy a vehicle so I definitely want to get my research all done before then.
