Which would you buy?

I got lucky on my $250AR X850XT but not as lucky as the $200AR rebate guys. Still, this was a very fine AGP upgrade from my 128mb 9800Pro. I wanted a 7800GT at the time as they were $300 for PCIe but totally not available for AGP.

Having had an X800XL, and currently running a 7800 GT OC, the difference is night and day. I would have to believe that the GeForce card will outperform the ATi in all the demanding areas of todays games.

I wouldnt get either. If you're still using an old card like a 9800p, then use this as an opportunity to jump over to pci-e and get a 7800gt for <$300 or a better card if you have money. And if you're still using a 6800gt or better, then keep it until you do a complete new build.

According to his sig, he's using a 9200. So a 7800GS would be a huge improvement.

If he does not want to upgrade his whole system and does not mind shelling out $300 then the 7800GS is the best way to go.

I have thought about it myself but I don't want to spend $300 (even though I could get up to $150 for my current card).

7800GS

If the X850XT was about $50-100 cheaper, i might consider it.
But not for the same price.

$300 buys him one more year (this year) at best before having to upgrade to PCIe. Personally I'd get the eVGA 7800GS Superclock version though since it its the best AGP on the market right now. Only the x850XT PE can come close to its performance. If not that way then go ahead and get a new PCIe system.

I think you can get a pcie 7800GT from Dell for around $260, and there are some pcie motherboards for 50-60, so I wouldn't put more than $200 into an agp card.
