trying to build a few render nodes and already have a couple 400 mhz intel boards just need a chip to go in them. So whcih 400 Mhz intel cpu would be a best fit to get the most out of these machines? Celeron 2.8? P4 2.4? Lemme know whatcha think!

The Pentium 2.4/400 would be your better bet at $157 shipped. The Celeron 2.8/400 is cheaper at $123, but is has less cache (128K) versus the P4 (512K). In the end, that will make it slower, much slower.

You're welcome. We do our renderings using 3D Studio Max and Alias|Wavefront Maya. We have a render farm of 25 nodes (two * 1.8 Pentium 4), connected with GiG-E, and 1 Gig of Ram. It works very well for us. If you have any questions, let me know and we may be able to help you out.
