which would do more damage...

A cement truck with a full load liquid cement or the same truck with the same amount of hardened cement?

I would imagine that the liquid cement would slosh forward, bringing it's weight into the action of the crash sightly after the initial impact. Being effectively part of the rigid structure of the truck, the solid cement would apply it's weight to the impact immediately. I'm thinking that the greater initial force of the solid cement would produce more damage than the weaker but slightly more drawn out force of the liquid cement.

The "liquid" would spill out causing even more damage.

isnt it the same? because f = mass x acceleration.

And were calculating force...

So if A and M are the same.. the F @ impact would be the same no?

The mass is basically the same in both cases, but I think the acceleration would be quite different. The rigid concrete would accelerate faster causing more force. Thus the impact damage would be more with the solid concrete. BUT, after the imact, the liquid concrete would probably do more damage than the solid concrete. So, I'm going to say it is indeterminate until we have more info.

Depends on what you are damaging. If the cement truck is the weak point, such as hitting a solid wall, the cement will spill out and spread the energy like getting hit with a balooon full or water vs ice.

let's say a BMW. Just because I hate people who drive them.

And no, neither vehicle is on a treadmill nor going anywhere near the speed of light.

same amount by volume or weight? if by volume the wet stuff would have additional water weight giving it more overall mass and giving the truck more momentum (and more damage)

Water weighs a lot... but really it should be close enough that other factors will come into play.

Oh and hitting a BMW it wouldn't matter, the car would be gone either way.

A water balloon would hurt a hell of a lot less than a balloon filled with solid ice ....

That said ... even an empty cement truck is capable of colossal damage.... so i don't think it would make a tremendous amount of difference, but, the solid cement would be worse.

In terms of financial damage the truck filled with liquid cement would cause more damage.

The truck with hardened cement is already useless at this point, whereas the one with liquid cement could have been on its way to its next job.
