Thinking about upgrading my video card, see sig. I was thinking about a X1950XTX or going with X1950Pro Crossfire. Which setup would be faster ? And please dont recommend NV. I always had ATI and not leaving them. Thanks.....

I wouldn't buy any video card right now. ATI is supposedly going to launch their R600 cards within a week or so.

The X1950 Pro Crossfire solution would be faster, though more expensive than the X1950XTX single card, but cost twice as much and consume twice as much power. I'd go with the X1950XTX myself, but I think it'd be a better idea to wait a few weeks. See what the R600 cards do to the X1K prices.

Wait a few weeks.
Otherwise go for a single x1950 xtx.The hassles(which are less now)of crossfire are not worth it.
Or better get a x1950 pro now and buy urself a 8600 gt when nvidia releases it in march. That will spank the radeon too.

A single x1950xt for $219 at newegg is the best graphics deal out. Its core runs only 25 MHz slower than the X1950 XTX, and its memory runs a full 250 MHz faster than the X1900 XTX.

Crosses fingers for lower end AGP RV600.

Well, I dont plan on buying anything from NV. I have nothing against them, just prefer ATI since they are the only brand ive had in years and years. I dont plan on buying R600 either ( at least not for about a year or so) since there is no point since DX10 games isnt out right now. And 2-4 games that is, isnt enough for me to buy the card. A X1950 Pro really wont help me right now. Since its only a few percent faster than the GT I have now.

The reason I was thinking Crossfire, is because it SHOULD be faster than the X1950XTX.

I could get another GT like I have now for Crossfire....But X1900GT Crossfire doesnt scale as well as X1950Pro Crossfire. So that's why I was thinking along that line.

in your place i'd probably try 'GT' x-fire ...

it is certainly 'mature' enough and will definitely give a decent performance increase ... i can't seen any SINGLE ATi [xtx] card that can do that

the other choice would be the 8800GTX
[it is an awesome card ... and i prefer ATi also ... but would consider it for my rig] ;)

What kind of performance from X1900GT Crossfire can I expect ?

Anyone know what kind of performance increase ? Or where I can find benches for it....

you're gonna have to find some benchs ... search AnandTech or Toms ... but xfire performance is about as decent as sli ....

i'd guess +30% to +70% ... generally ... depending on game and CPU limitations

not as fast as 8800GTX but much faster than the fastest Single ATi solution.

I did find a few benches. It's comparing X1900GT Crossfire vs. 7950GX2. In the conclusion of the article, it states.....the Crossfire solution is as fast as a 7950GX2. Now I know thats a nice card...so maybe the Crossfire wont be bad at all. I was actually considering a 8800GTS this morning....but came to realize, with my current cpu, it would be severely bottlenecked ( correct me if im wrong on that ) and im not really ready for a DX10 card. Thanks for your responses apoppin....

Here are the reviews I found....

BTW....what is Crossfire x8 and does it have to run at that?

Also, how do you enable Crossfire with two GT's that one isnt a mastercard ?

Thanks

An 8800GTS/GTX will be somwhat bottlenecked by a 3500+ cpu, however the GTX in particular would still be faster then any other solution out there aside from 8800 SLI, including Crossfired X1950XTX's without any of the dual-video card glitchs. Another very compelling reason to go with Nvidia would be if you already have or are considering a new LCD moniter because Nvidia's image scaling options blow ATI's out of the water right now... DX10 really isnt a concern because few/no games will be getting released that use it anytime soon, but DX9 performance with the 8800's is fantastic & I also prefer ATI.

From the benchmarks I've seen the 8800GTS is about on par with an X1950XTX so if the Crossfired GT's are indeed faster than the XTX than they'll also be faster than the GTS. Things may have changed since I'm referencing the benchmarks that came out with the G80 launch.

That being said I prefer a single card solution to any dual card solution unless I find a really good deal.

Well, I have a solution that sticks with your brand loyalty and is also compatible with sensibility:

Buy an x1950 pro now (which is a great card anyway) and wait for the R600.

My monitor is an LCD Widescreen 19 inch. Made by Gateway...not sure of model number, but at the top, it says HD Display. Native resolution is 1440x900
