ive never understood this view. why would we suddenly be back in the stone age just because all existing technology ceases to operate? we still know how to make new ones, right? and EMP wont affect anything new we make.

id take my chances in the zombie thing over them all. although i do enjoy playing post-apocalyptic games, so world-wide nuclear war survival would be ok too :p

It's called exaggeration... I know we could rebuild stuff and obviously it wouldn't be the stone age but think of the chaos and anarchy that would ensue first. You can't call anyone, you can't drive to work, or commute, all debts are erased(China would be fucked :p)... everyone would be stuck in a rut for a while before any rebuilding is to resume. I don't think you realize the gravity of the situation if all electronics ceased to work simultaneously. How do you exactly rebuild sophistocated machines and equipment that required other machines to make? You would literally have to start with the nail and hammer and work your way back up.

It reads like you are asking me which worldwide catastrophic event would I prefer to experience. Kind of double negativeish. So my answer is none.

An EMP strike won't destroy my guns or the electronics in my daily driver, well, maybe the radio. When your daily driver still uses points, mechanical fuel pum, and carbs, an EMP strike won't effect it. And I've got a couple of hand pumps that I can use to pull the fuel out of the in ground gasoline tanks. :D

That is exactly what I'm asking. If one catastrophic event will occur, which event would you prefer.

By reading the thread, I can tell many people didn't understand my question.

Zombies. I'd get to use my gun for once. Then when they overwhelm me I'd have to save one bullet for myself. Gruesome but better than the alternatives.

Anything that wasn't quick. Something like everything getting colder and colder over a period of a year, food and resources disappearing and just have to watch everyone die.

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up."

In other words, I don't want to be there when the slate of the universe is wiped clean by God.

don't worry, you won't.

no one will.

Least prefer: Biological or viral epidemic. Even if you survive you have to deal with the aftermath of losing family and friends, the horror of too many bodies to bury, the collapse of society as you know it, etc.

Most prefer: Judgment day. At the very worst you get some answers to life's great questions, and you have the satisfaction of knowing that whatever happens to you is happening because of your own choices and behavior rather than by random chance.

Airborne Ebola virus epidemic would be a bad way to go.

I would prefer something supernatural as that would make things more interesting.
