I want to add 3 additional computers to an existing network. Which wireless device should I get?

I would look at the 3Com AirConnect - this summer they are introducing another "RETAIL / SMALL BUSINESS" format.

you can't get better than Cisco's Aironet products... I've use them with my clients and swear but them... not to mention they always get rave reviews and are often editor's picks.

A question:
if the access point and the NIC is in different rooms or even different stories of a house, will they still work without noticable performance slow down?

it depends...

1. interference
2. thickness of walls
3. wall composite
4. antenna direction and placement.
