which wire is the RPM sensing one?

i just bought a FOP38 to put on my new Duron 600(it's factory unlocked!! ) but i don't want to blow the header on my K7T Pro2A(which i will have in a few days) but i still want my rpm readout. what i was planning on doing was using a 3-4 pin connector to supply the power, then directly connect the rpm sensing wire to the motherboard header(will it work?) so i need to know which wire does which: i have a red, blue and black wire. thanks


also, should i remove Satan's Bubble Gum(my friend told me that one ) in other words, the little PCTC(phase change thermal compound, right?) and replace it with some radio shack goop or leave it as-is? i noticed that the bottom isn't very smooth, so i may have to lap it a bit. what grit sandpaper should i use to lap it?

Blue wire is the sensor one. And about leaving the sensor wire pluged into the motherbord, I'm not so sure if it's going to work. it should.

it SHOULD work, i'm just not sure if there has to be a load across the other two pins for the rpm sensing one to work. if there is, i could always add a resistor across them

Don't worry... you'll know if the fan slows/dies down Also I'd remove that pad... it is annoying to get off the core if you ever plan to remove the heatsink. I'd use Arctic Silver, buts that just me. I used some common silicon grease on my Cek742 and that worked fine.

Arctic silver is hard to come by(and very expensive) up here, so i'm stuck with either the pad, or the radio shack goop. the bottom of the fop isn't what i'd call smooth, so i don't know. i'm hoping never to have to take the heatsink off, as i don't have any pencil marks i have to redo

The Radio Shack goop isn't that bad if you apply it correctly. I'm getting pretty decent temperatures using it. (and its ALOT cheaper to get than the Artic Silver).
