Which Windows XP disk for which key?

techs

Lifer
Since WindowsXP Home edition retail version key and oem version key and upgrade version key can only used with the WindowsXP disk that it corresponds to, is there any way to determine which disk was used?
In other words, as a computer shop tech sometimes a customer will drop off a computer and not bring in the software or the key. I can get the key off of the machine and re-install if I knew which disk they used. Then I could just verify the key and disk when they come to pick it up.
Is this info available anywhere from within an installed Windows XP?
Thanks.

OEM would have OEM if you right click on My Computer and look in the central of the page. Upgrade would have different Windows directory in C:\ and you'd see upgrade logs.

I think OEM versions are the only ones that use a COA sticker on the case. Upgrade and Retail versions have the key code on an orange sticker on the packet that came with the OS.

Theres a great program called keyfinder v1.51 you can use it to change windows key.
You put in the one on the box you worked on (Windows Key)

Its great to fresh load without oem disk. Because you change key after a new install and activate it
