Look at the friggen pics. Halo 2 looks very comparable to half life 2. Havent seen water in halo 2 so dont know about that, but as far as environments and player models, halo 2 looks every bit as good as half life 2.
Hardware doesnt matter as much as you think. Since the xbox is stationary hardware, developers can take full advantage of it and not have to worry that someone will have something too slow to run it.
Physics wise, halo 2 already has half life 2 beat, as the environments are fully destructable, you can blow out chunks of a wall with a greneade or rocket launcher, and all veichles have realistc physics, where you shoot a veichle is where parts fall off.
Dont get me wrong, I intend to get both games and play them both, but Halo 2 looks to be better summing up all the info around on both of them.
