Will be mainly used for net surfing, will have HDTV tuner card, and casual HL2 gaming.

Syntax Olevia 27": larger viewable size but lower native res.

Dell 24" 2405FPW: smaller viewable compared to olevia but higher native res (might actually pose a problem to my either x800 or 6800gt vidcard with that high of a res coz I do like to see max eye candy.

Where is this going to sit, and how far are you going to sit from it? If you're putting it on a desk and sitting a couple feet away, 2405FPW. If you're mounting it on a wall, or on a TV stand, and your viewing distance is farther away, go with the Olevia.

Both are good, sharp screens that serve different purposes.

get the dell, i had the syntax 27 lcd/tv, had problems with reading the black text on webpages, and games looked too stretched, also i couldnt get it far enough away from me, It was like sitting in the front row of a movie theatre, for gaming and internet get the dell for sure, and its got insanely high resolution, the syntax might be great for u but not for me..also the remote system sux on the olevia..

I have this desk . The drawer actually flips open that has a slide out tray for keyboard and mouse. As you can see, it actually has a wide desk space and I maintain no clutter on it. With the wide desk space plus the slide out keyboard tray, my eyes would be about a good 3 to 3.5 feet away.

If I go with olevia, I plan to wall mount it and push the desk about an inch or two from the monitor. If I go dell, I'll just have it stand on the edge of the desk with the desk about an inch off of the wall.

What about for: "Will be mainly used for net surfing, will have HDTV tuner card, and casual HL2 gaming."..... at a good 3 to 4 feet (distance from eyes to screen).
