Daleks would exterminate them both... with their mighty plungers.

THIS

The borg are the anti-daleks... they get lamer as the years went on 😛

That may be debatable. Before The Best of Both Worlds, TNG wasn't doing too well in the rating department. The cliffhanger at the end of season 3 is largely what made TNG the phenomenon it was.

Plus it was for the best. Those "bugs" looked like SHIT. Seriously. The "bug" special effects in Conspiracy looked so awful you would swear it was a special effect right out of ToS. D: The only plus side to the episode was getting to see that asshole Lt. Cmd guy get his head blown up.

They didn't have consistently good writing in TNG until season 4. had nothign to do with the Borg, which were brainless bad guys.

The entire first season of TNG used leftover scripts from ToS IIRC. They were pretty out there and certainly felt 20 years old watching them. I felt season 3 and forward the show was very good.

Yeah Gene Roddenberry didnt have a chance to use a lot of his ideas on the first series. The first movie was also an episode idea just stretched out to 2 hours with a LOT bigger budget.
Once he let Berman & Braga take over creative control the show got moving again. Of course, they eventually milked its tits clean off.

Although I must say one race using drug addiction to control another race didnt feel like a 60's idea, it felt a lot more modern. That was first season as I recall.
And the last couple episodes dealing with Star Fleet being overrun by aliens wasnt a TOS theme. They NEVER dealt directly with Star Fleet back home.

Borg- They're 24th century zombies. Strong, invincible, with only very specific weaknesses. We like zombies, so we like the Borg.

Cylons- They're conspiracy starters. You never know who is one, you never know what they're up to. They can sneak up and gitcha at any point.

They're both effective, just with different techniques.

The Borg because they had no fucking drama.

FUCKING THIS.

Although I'd have to put an asterisk and say TNG-era Borg. Once Voyager came along they pussified them something terrible. TNG Borg were nasty and didn't give one single fuck.

Cylons were cool and insidious at first but BSG tanked hard and turned all Cylon interactions into a soap opera.

Which seasons was it in BSG that they Cylons became a soap opera?
