You want my take on it??? probably not but here it goes...

The reasons these chips are not ocing as well of late....user incompetence...I bet that this is more then half of them.

user incompetence in researching and getting the best components....PSU, MObos, Ram, others...
user incompetence in researching known incompatabilities...
user incompetence in understanding settings in the bios and using the appropriate bios...
user incompetences in method of ocing....

Now this is not everyone, but since the mad rush on these chips which really begin in January there are more and more self proclaimed "noobs" ocing....In November and December it was the normal ocing crowd getting into it, and thus not as many problems. I will take some blame as well as others should, but we made it sound too simple...too foolproof....Then everybody and their sister decided to jump on the bandwagon of cheap A64 chips oc'd to a 900 dollar FX levels...The problem is they have never done it, they tried to cheapen everything up in the system regardless what many of us told them....

When it comes to ocing do not think "bargain"....They are a bargain for the cpu, but they usually require more expensive enthusiast type mobos, better ram (for some), much more expensive and larger top quality PSUs, better cooling then stock, etc.....Do not cheapen this up....

I would bet that Zebo and I (and about a dozen or so old timer ocers) can probably take quite a few of these chips on our systems and get much more out of them......I am not bragging, I just truly believe it. I believe it by listening to the methodology ppl use in ocing and stability. I believe it by looking at the "rate my rig" and "hows my system" threads. I see the components ppl are looking at buying and just shake my head... They haven't read a damn thing!!!

Go ahead...Most know I respond to all my PMs to anyone who asks, and I have helped quite a few with settings and setups....

I only made those comments cause I truly do not believe someone these chips got so bad...actually according to reports they were--- great to week 40--- then got so-so to about week 45--- then kickarsed again to week 49--- then got real week again thru week 51--- then got better at start of 05 to now bad again...see the pattern?? I dont!!!

YMMV (your Mileage May Vary) is a common saying here and does ean something..remember that for about every post you see about problems there are probably 5 times more that did not have a problem so you dont see them post. They show up in the polls like mine to post their scores....129+ votes in that thread for being about 2-3 weeks old...

After seeing Duvie's setup and checking out his benchmark thread I went out and got a Winnie 3000+. week 0450. I didn't think I could even get one made in 2004 anymore! I'll be installing it tonight or tomorrow and I'll report back on my results....

Interesting.... now I've popped the Winnie 3000+ in and am running it at stock for testing. It was fun getting that heatsink back on. It ran an 11119 in 3DMARK03, which is less than 10% what I got with the 3500+ Newcastle, BUT for some reason this chip is running hotter at normal idle - a stunning 48C. (The Newcastle, OC'd to 2.5G, was pulling 44 at normal load.) I've applied Arctic Silver and my HS/F is as tall as the freakin' video card, but I'm obviously running on air. I may have to check the seating of the heat sink, as I cannot fathom why a Winnie would run hotter than a Newcastle in the exact same system - with no tweaks whatsoever.

Again, this is an 04 week 50 3000+ Winnie chip. Weird, no? I'm gonna shut down and check the seating of the heatsink (Yes, the CPU fan is on....) :)

EDIT: Duh..... lowered the voltage to Winnie settings. that helped a lot. I'm a dork :) More later....

week 44, 2004.

2.55 prime stable, though it gets a bit toasty with the stock cooler. I am awaiting an xp-90, so we'll see if that will help any...

And possibly the chip won't do it ! I have tried dividers, and Duvie even helped me. My week 51 3000+ won;t go over 2.2 stable ! It won;t even post at 2.5 ! PC4000 OCZ gold rev2 even with a 133 divider and HTT3 and 1.6 v ! But it is stable at 245x9 at 1:1 1.475v !

I cant use dividers on my rig, appart from 1:1 that is. Any time I try using any other divider my rig crashes. But since the Corsair 3200XL's can handle 260, I've resorted to keep it at 2.6ghz with 1:1. My winnie can probably clock higher, but that's a project for another day.

I'm getting the same problem with my Neo2 Platinum and memory dividers. :( Maybe I'll get rid of it and get the Epox 939 board... probably should have done that to begin with.

Im using the same bios you're using, from the same site! 1.41modded. Will try the others and see if they're any better.

Your BIOS came with 1.4 that must be a pretty new board ...

Just bought it a month ago.

Mine came with the 1.2 bios and I had to flash it to get past 220fsb the first night I was testing it at MarkFW900's house....I intially went to 1.37mod which was a nice bios...When I switched to the TCCD chip s and GSkill I read the 1.41mod was better for it..I switched to it and I have been able to get my TCCD to run slightly better timings...NOw be careful I think there actually may be 3 bioses for 1.41....1.41beta, 1.41mod and another 1.41mod variant....

check the links I have provided and see how many different 1.41s there are....
