Can anyone show me an exemple of a part number or a marking on the processor
that tells me the year and week? especially for a 3500+ winnie. if not a link please.

I will buy it on monday, if they have a few I will ask to see them all and choose the best week!!

Thanks

Okay, I've just recently ordered a 3200+ Winchester, but what is this "week" thing you're all talking about?

Manufacturing week of AMD CPUs. Some manufaturing weeks are better than others.

Well what is the point of telling eachother the week #? Are you going to tell Newegg, "Please ship a week 32 3200+"? I mean honestly does anyone really have a choice?

Winchester 3500

0441tpbw

this s*cker does NOT want to go over 2600.......tested up to almost 1.7Vcore....no way. Mediocre, but could be worse.

Edit: Xp-120 and 1.52 - 1.55 vcore.. 42 load right now priming/OCCT-ing.

Also...according to a lot of threads i followed...there doesnt really seem to be a pattern...eg. "good weeks" etc....in fact later weeks seem to do even worse....read about some really bad newer chips...rather looks like earlier ones were bettter....but then they had issues priming w/ blend.

Its pretty much random.

It goes like this:

AMD Athlon 64
ADA3000DIK4BI
CBBID 0502APEW <--At the space, 05 is the year, 02 is the week
1183268A50550

week 2, year 05 for me.

2.25G (9x 250)at 1.55V
2.3G (9x 255) at 1.6V, temp 56C
craps out in 10 minutes in Prime95 at 1.57V.
memory is at 209 MHz, and tests out pefect 12 hours with memtest86 3.2 at 220M.
craps out on first test in Prime95 at 2.6G or 2.4G at 1.57V.

1.6V is living too dangerously for me.

3000+
stock HSF
MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum
PS is Antec SL300S
(2x512) Cosair PC3200 Value Select

This thread is back? Well, since I have some real testing done now... 3000+, 0449MPM, 289*9 = 2601 MHz @ 1.61v, currently running 285*9 = 2565 @ 1.54. Prime stable OCs. An OK chip... I hoped for better than OK... but I'm not going CPU hunting again until Venice is out. This is my second one, the first one (a week 50) was not as good.

I got a CBBHD 0447 3000+ @2,655 1.58 vcore. I cant get it stable at 296+ though:(.

i have a week 2, year 05 winchester. my oc is about 2.4ghz, and i'm happy with it. i tried pushing it further, and it really wasn't happening. from what i've read, this is a decent overclock for this chip. i'm at about 1.45 vcore, btw.

I didn't have this in mind when ordering my A64 3200+, since I didn't know about it. Does it matter a lot? How do I know what week I have?

the problem so people are having is that some weeks perform better then others ... but the basics to this is that you dont get to choose and you just get what you get... so if you proc doesnt OC that well its just bad luck .. it a bit harsh i know some people can only OC like 200Mhz more then stock, compared to some people that can get a 3000+ 1.8 to 2.6Ghz which i think is quite amazing...

you will only be able to find the stepping of you proc on the heatspreader.. but i think that there is a program out there that is able to do this ... but i cant remember .....

Are all A64 models affected by this?

Well, a fresh A64 3200+ with a GF6600GT PCIe is going to work a bit better than a n AthlonXP 1600+ (fried) and a GF2 Pro anyhow. ;)

When that silver-coloured plate underneath the HSF looked like it was copper or bronze, I knew something had gone wrong...

0451 Winnie 3000

I just got it together last night and started messing around with some OC

9x250 at default 1.425V booted into windows, ran 3dmark2001se no problem, but failed prime95 within minutes
Upped voltage to 1.475 and it would pass Prime95 for at least 30 minutes, and 2+ hours of CS:S with no troubles.
I run the 166 ram divider, memory is running at 208MHz according to memtest in the BIOS of the Ultra D.

I have not tried going any further yet, sure there is more, temps are mid 30's after playing hours of CS:S, mind you by the time I get to BIOS i may have cooled, need to get a windows monitoring program to watch the temps while under load.

This all on the stock HSF, If I cannot go any higher, I would not be to disappointed, to have a 3000 at 3500 speeds is not bad :)
I will try later this week though to get to my target of 2.4-2.5 :)

Then that is not a stable system!!!! Check out my overclocking thread from 1.8ghz to 2.665ghz...The performance is linear albeit not always the exact same percentage as the overclock...but damn close!!!!

I still climb in scores at this level and going to 2.7ghz...Where I get diminished returns is if I have to drop multi or lossen cas timings I may have to increase more then 1 HTT to make up the diff....Is that what you mean???

The best I can relatively stably o/c to is 2200. (note: an all night run of Prime95 crapped out on this and restarted in the middle of the night)

So in all likelihood, my actual maximum stable is more like 2100. I think I got the most pathetic chip that I've ever heard of anyone getting. I'm rather upset.

Edit: Those speeds were at no higher than 1.45 V, but if I go up to 1.6V stability doesn't change at all.

CBBID 0451APBW... same week here, but runs quite well...needs some voltage, though... =>sig
