Which WebCam should I choose?

Hi guys (and girls, let's not forget them)!

I'm searching for a webcam, the only thing I have in my mind is that it has to be USB and it has to work perfectly with MSN Messenger and WinXP.

Do you have any recommendations?

Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000, I am using it for my eyes for my thesis project on machine vision, pretty good if you want easy to use, USB

I was taking a look at the Quickcam Pro 3000, what's the difference between both? Is the 3000 a good camera too?

i have the 3000, got it before the 4000 came out from JustDeals.com. It performs well in low light and many have said it to be as good or better than the 3COM Home Connect.

I looked at the 4000 and not much looks different enough to get me to upgrade.

man those logitechs are expensive. if you want a great inexpensive webcam go for the veo advanced digital connect.
this camera has very good pictures, a built in mic and spider clip if you are using an lcd or laptop.

Compusa has it for $49.99 - 20 mir.

Showdown, do you have any image samples at 640x480 from that camera? I've seen stuff from the 4000, I'm curious how this one compares.

use JustDeals.com to get the logitech cameras (or any logitech device), he sells refurbs and I have bought and most of my friends have too and have had absolutely no problems.

i have the 3000 and it works great, but I heard the 4000 is 1.6 mpxl ? or something like that.. I do want to get the 4000 also..

They are supposedly the same cameras, just different casings. The specs are listed differently on each of their boxes so it's confusing.

The Quickcam 3000/4000 are favorites among the telescope crowds. They have tons of mods.

Basically any webcam that uses CCD sensors instead of CMOS would be clearer, with little color smearing especially under low light. The Logitech 3000/4000 uses CCD while cheaper Logitech models have CMOS.

yes image resolution is 640x480 and they look great for a cmos chip. im sorry but i dont have any images with this camera. i use a logitech 3000 and i cant really tell that much of a difference between the two. again this is a great price for the camera which you are getting.

fyi: i have a proggy called logitech IM video companion that lets you interface with aol IM and msn messenger.

just go to the logitech website and read the specs for the two cameras!

please do you buy the QuickCam 4000 Pro if you are doing software development, because their SDK would not work for 4000, only 3000, for other purpose I would still recommand 3000 over 4000, it is $20 cheaper. I bought the 4000 first, then I bought the 3000 for SDK support, they both use the same CCD sensor and exactly the same spec, all I can say is that they are identical, the 1.3 Megapixel image is bad, it is actually a extrapolation from the 640x480 image, it is like you zoom in using a MS Photoeditor, horrible at megapixel, for video, both are very smooth at 30fps

I have the Veo advanced connect. Works very nicely, except the spider clip doesn't attach to laptops. Just LCD monitors.
