How old are you? Are you on crack?

Have you ever seen the Subaru WRX commercial? Where it is in the rally driving in the mud? That shows what we are talking about, if you haven't seen it you can probably find it on the internet somewhere.

JR's pure and simple answer:

Forget the BS, just remember this. If you're beginning to lost traction, just keep the front wheels pointed the direction you want to go. If the spin isn't too bad this will cause the rear wheels to straighten back out (the rear tires have to follow the front tires, get it?).

<< 1) You are approaching a left corner and turn the wheel left. Oops, you have too much gas and suddenly your tail end is spinning. This is called oversteer because it now looks like you over turned the wheel too far to the left. To correct it you turn the wheel now to the right (and also reduce throttle). >>

isnt that why you slow before a turn and gas through it?

Yes, as many have said it's "opposite lock" that is needed. In a rear wheel drive you should let off the power.

In a front wheel drive you should nail the power. No kidding. Letting off the power in a front wheel drive car in a skid is the worst thing you could do. Actually, hitting the brakes would be worse still....

OK then drive north in a few months. To say CANADA. Find a BIG Ice covered parking lot and TRY it. (MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO CARS)
You will see for yourself. YOU TURN INTO THE SKID!

Well yeah unless you have WAY too much gas, in which case you simply have to drop the throttle a bit, but like you said rally especially they gas through the corner - and unless they turn the wheel towards the outside of the turn while doing so they will increase their spin. I think this is what some people mean then they say turn in because they are turning the wheel to point to where the rear of the car is spinning. I personally find this in/out stuff confusing :p But seriously - if your nose starts turning too far to the right around a right turn turn left. If its turning too much to the inside of the turn (ie, left) on a left turn then turn the wheel to the right. This is why in rally although a car may be taking a left corner their front wheels are in fact turned to the right - because they are oversteering so heavily and gasing through the turn that this is required to avoid spinning out.

I hope you have broadband.
See the part where the girl says, "with the spirit of a 3 time road rally champion" It is going on a left turn but it is drifting so it keeps the wheels straight and even turns a little to the right to keep the car from spinning out. If it would turn left while drifting like that it would spin out.

You temporarily turn into the spin, this is because you have the most traction if your tires are pointing in the same direction as the car is moving. Once you have traction then you can correct the spin and turn out of it.
