Which video card?

I want to upgrade my Geforce 2 GTS and am not sure what card would do me better. I am torn between the Geforce 4 TI 4600, or the Radeo 9700 Pro. Is the price difference worth it? Should I wait for the NV30? I currently have an Athlon 1600+ with 512MB. Would a 9700 Pro be to much power?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd recommend a GeForce4-Ti4200/4400 which can usually be overclocked to GeForce4-Ti4600 speeds. That'd be a great upgrade from a GeForce2 and, then, when prices drop next summer grab a RADEON 9700 Pro or a GeForce FX.

If the 9700 pro is too expensive for you maybe you could look at the 9700 non-pro. It performs fairly close to the pro and is significantly cheaper. Here in Canada I can get a pro for $579 Canadian or a non pro for $409 (ncix.com prices). The non-pro is by Sapphire. Nick is right, the fx should push all the other cards lower.

With your systen I would go for a Ti4200 64mb, till you upgraded. You should be able to pick up one of these for about $100.
