Which video card?

I want to upgrade my Geforce 2 GTS and am not sure what card would do me better. I am torn between the Geforce 4 TI 4600, or the Radeo 9700 Pro. Is the price difference worth it? Should I wait for the NV30? I currently have an Athlon 1600+ with 512MB. Would a 9700 Pro be to much power?

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

wait till the fx comes out so the prices on the others will go down, then snatch one up! (id get the 9700 pro):)

I'd recommend a GeForce4-Ti4200/4400 which can usually be overclocked to GeForce4-Ti4600 speeds. That'd be a great upgrade from a GeForce2 and, then, when prices drop next summer grab a RADEON 9700 Pro or a GeForce FX.:)

If the 9700 pro is too expensive for you maybe you could look at the 9700 non-pro. It performs fairly close to the pro and is significantly cheaper. Here in Canada I can get a pro for $579 Canadian or a non pro for $409 (ncix.com prices). The non-pro is by Sapphire. Nick is right, the fx should push all the other cards lower.

With your systen I would go for a Ti4200 64mb, till you upgraded. You should be able to pick up one of these for about $100.
