Which video card...?

I'm utterly clueless when it comes to video cards, so suggestions please to go with the following system...

1.33Gig Athlon T-bird 266, FIC AD11 Mobo, 512Mb PC2100 DDR ... I basically want to run some decent 3d games on a 19" monitor, and I'm happy to spend $200 or so, maybe a bit more. What sort of thing should I be looking for? I've tried reading some video card primers, but they may as well be in Sanskrit.

If you're into better visual quality as opposed to 3D performance pick up a 64MB Radeon Card for 180 or so. If you can sacrifice a little visual quality, go with a 32MB Geforce 2 GTS or wait for the new Kyro II.

I agree, the ATI 64meg is a good deal if you can spend that much.
If you want a really good2D card for that 19", and only spend $100, get the Matrox G450 32meg. I'll tell you now, the gaming on it won't be any where close to the Radeon or newer cards...but the 2D and high resolutions will be awesome! It's really not a bad gaming card either, just not up to par with the newest cards and games. Personally, I tend to buy games that came out a year or two ago, and my Matrox hadles them fine. New games are damn expensive! 🙂

Radeon 64MB VIVO is the card you should purchase. The image quality is great, and it will do nicely on your 19" monitor. It is also very good at 3d games, almost equaling a Geforce2 GTS.

you can get the msi geforce2 pro 64 meg for about 209 shipped and it will perform better than all of these cards in 3d, but the 2d on it isn't all that great
