I currently have a 9800PRO AGP8x card, but its gettin a little slow in games like CoD 2, and Quake 4, even at 1024x768. I want to be able to run newer games at 1280x1024 with high details, and maybe AA and AF, since i am getting a flat panel, and thats its native rez. X800PRO is $190 at newegg, will this last at 1280 for awhile? I am going to get a PCI-E motherboard, and from benchmarks, the X800 seems pretty good for the price. I can go a little higher in price, if anyone has any suggestions

Thanks

define 'last awhile'
the x800 is a gen behind
and what's your highest price you are willing to pay? its hard to recommend an older gpu when you are playing current games and want high details. the current gen is already struggling, so any old gpu's will easily struggle on upcoming games.
i'd recommend a 7800gt or x1800xl. they are close in performance, although the 7800gt is a clear winner.
there will soon be a 7800gs which is supposed to be right inbetween a 6800gt and 7800gt. looking to be around $250, I' d guess based on the fact that 7800gt's can be had for about $330.

hopefully it releases as it will be great for budget-gamers, holds a lot of promise for that market

It's currently $145 after a mail in rebate.

I also recommend the 6800GS which goes for around $200 or a little more if you decide to get an SLI motherboard and want to SLI them in the future.

he's using AGP, i would suggest 6800gt or 800xl if they're within your budget.

edit: my bad missed the part about the upgrade to PCI-E:eek:

The cheapest 7800 i found was 299 after rebate, thats a little more than i was planning to spend, since i need to get a new mobo with PCI. I'd like the card to last around a year, hows this 6800GS? http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814150118, is it siginifgantly better than the X800? It is factory overclocked, i primarliy want to play ES4:eek:blivion at 1280x1024 and have it run well.

there's a short review of the 6800gs on AT, it's nice card that's competively priced, if performs similiar to the 6800gt, but from what i hear they over-clock nicely, making them more attractive.

He said he's going to PCIe, and in that case the C3D GTO is the best bang for the buck card.

The choice comes down to this... if your willing to unlock & OC (with a chance it won't work), the the X800GTO is the way to go because it will be faster in most situations, if you want to run at stock speeds, have a warranty & have the option of SLI as an upgrade, go with the 6800GS.

QFT, by the way i thought the success rate of the 16pipe mod on the x800gto^2 was 100%

The GTO^2 is 100 percent, the Connect3d GTO, though a very small chance, has a chance of failing.

i just thought about this, everybody(including me) mentions the 6800gs and x800gto, but the 7800gs should be coming out soon. it will be a little higher than 6800gs, but is supposedly less than the 7800gt, but won't be far behind the GT in performance. definetly could be an option if you're willing to spend a little more.

Any have any info on the 7800GS? If its coming within 2 months or so i might wait, although im not one to usually do that, since it seems like something better is always just around the corner

Going from the 9800pro, the only upgrades i'd consider would be the upcoming 6800gs depending on price or the x800gto. Like everyone else said I guess :p

If you want to spend the whole $300 go with an x800xt. That's about the best agp card at the $300 mark.

As much as I want a 7800GS (I'll be first in line to get one), I don't think they're going to do it. The rate the 7800GT is falling in price, I don't see how it fits, pricing wise, unless they dropped the 7800GT altogether. Has any concrete plans been made as to if and when they will be released?

6800GS is quite a bit better than a 9800PRO right? It looked that way from bechmarks at least, since its signifigantly better than the 6600GT, and the GT is better than the 9800. I was under the impression that the GS was slightly better than a 6800GT.
