Hey All,

I just built my new AMD 64 system, but still using an old Ti 4200 128 MB video card. I've been looking at the ATI 9800 pro, 9800XT and Nvidia 5900XT, 6800. Which is the right choice for me? I play a lot of FPS (COD, BF1942 - Vietnam) and EQ (hopefully EQ2).

Here's my new system spec.

MB = AOPEN AK86-L
CPU = AMD 64 2800+
RAM = 1GB GEIL
HD = 80gig IBM SATA
Sound = SB Auudigy 2 zs
Video = Ti 4200 128MB

Thanks
JB

BTW, my new system is very FAAAST :)

6800

I STRONGLY urge you towards the 6800GT if you can find the extra cash. With a bit of overclocking, that GT turns to an ultra.

9800 pro 128 MB would do OK (max 1024x768 in Doom) and is the best choice under $250. 6800 GT is the best choice for $300-400.

Read the many 6800-vs-x800 threads here and in Video if you're willing to spend over $300 on a card, otherwise get the 9800 pro.

From everything I've read in the last 3 months, take it for what it's worth. Nvidia cards run cooler albeit they are a little bigger. My choice was eVGA and I have found their phone support to be excellent. that is generally the deciding factor for me, the support. Not email support, the phone support...

despite what people say about MSI boards, they are a HUGE video card manufacturer, and I've never had problems with any of my 3 MSI video cards. (NVIDIA based)

I'm buying the MSI 6800 card because MSI has never let me down before. Their MB has always been awesome for me.

Take care all and thanks again
