Which video card...

Hi all,
Currently I have a Radeon 7200 32mb ddr (originally known as the Radeon LE when ATI started the Radeon line). My other specs are: AMD 2400+ (non-oc'd), 512mb ddr.
I am thinking about buying a new video card. My budget is $40-60, buying a used card is out of the question. My options as I see them are:
Radeon 9200
Radeon 9200SE
Geforce FX5200
Geforce 4 MX440 or MX4000 (I didn't know there was a 4000)

I have looked at reviews, and I can't decide. Plus, the geforce4 MX reviews are too old (atleast the ones I found). I would like the opinions and knowledge of the people on these forums to guide me as to which card to buy, or if I should just stick with my current one? If there is a card not on the above list but in my price range, please let me know.

hehe cute 🙂
I can easily afford a 9800pro, I just feel spending ~210 on a video card is a waste of money. My current card can pull off UT2K4 on the lowest settings, at 1024x768, with a little lag in extremely heavy fighting. It's that lag that I want to get rid of. I don't care for eye candy. I spent $100 on my 7200 a long time back (too long to remember). So, I decided no more than 60bucks, considering my gaming is occasional.

Save $10 more and get a 128mb ti4200. Or if you really can't spend that extra money, get the 64mb ti4200. All the cards you listed are crap.

I wouldn't buy anything less than a GF4Ti 4200, but even a Radeon 9100 or 9600 should be a huge improvement over your 7200.

Why is used out of the question?

🙁

I have the fx5200 256mb

I can play ut2004 at 1024x768 2x fsaa w/o ever seeing a slow down though...so I guess it's good enough for now
(Although my 3dmark 2004 score is 1147 and really sucks 😛)

I've had a bad experience buying used over the internet. And I'm no longer at school so don't have access to those resources.
I checked on the ti4200 and the cheapest one I could find was close to 100 with shipping with a company with decent reseller ratings. Where could I get a ti4200 for $10 more?

well im glad you got the 256 meg, that extra memory is really helping you isnt it.

EDIT

getting the 256 was a waste of money

9200 I guess, definately not the 9200SE (64-bit memory controller) or MX440
If I remember right the 9xxx series doesn't support DX9 while the FX5200 does, unfortunately the FX5200 is quite a bit slower than the 9200 and as some wise guy said: A directX 9.0 Slideshow is still a Slideshow.

At newegg.com
You can easily get a Radeon 9600 SE 128mb for around 58-68$ by sapphire, gigabyte, original
ATI

You can get a 128mb Fx5200 for 58-62$(money waste as compared to a 9600 SE) by gigabyte,XFX,albatronMSI etc

a FX5600XT around 90-100(at max)$ by gainward
i kwow this one is out of ur budget but u can buy this one by saving ur allowance better than the either i have mentioned above

Actually, I just told the store guy to get a fx5200, I didn't know he was going to get me a 256mb model. I really don't even know how much the card cost...
