You want to play Battlefield : V and UT2K4, with config as seen in my sig? My 9700Pro died :( and in the likely case that it can't be fixed, I'll need something to replace the GF4 MX440 I borrowed from a friend.

Here are some of the choices I have locally:

Grandmars 9800Pro $215
HIS Radeon 9600XT $155
PixelView 5900XT $165
MSI 5900XT $200

Quietness is somewhat of a preference... but at $200 for the MSI 5900XT, I should just fork out the extra $15 for a 9800Pro.

Oh, almost forgot to mention that I can get a used 9500Pro for ~$100. Does this perform on par with the 9600XT?

if you dont care bout the $ get the 9800Pro.
if you want to go nvidia get a standard 5900 NU not XT and OC it or flash it to 5950U.

9800P.

A 9500P performs on par with a 9600XT, and is a good deal at $100 if it's fast enough for you. It'd also be a pretty good idea if you're planning on buying an NV40 or R420 in April/May, both of which are supposed to be 2x faster than 9800XT/5950U (and thus worth 2x $200 if you like gaming at high res with AA+AF).

But both may require a PSU upgrade, probably impossible for your Shuttle. So you may just be better off upgrading to a 9800P and keeping it for a year or so. A 9800P appears to be 50% faster than a 9500P at any setting above 10x7 plain, so if you want to go higher than 10x7, the 9800P is probably your only option.

ati is really good about replaceing cards that die under warranty, if you have an ati then just send it in.

Unfortunately, I can't ... this is why
(btw, if you have a 9700pro, please help!)

Looks like a new 9800Pro , or the used 9500Pro would be a ideal for me.

9800 Pro was 250$ at BB on thursday with a 50$ mail in rebate. That's my recommendation, it'll run BF and UT great and it will last long enough for next gen parts to significantly drop in price.

My vote for the 9800 pro as well. Most of them can overclock to close to stock 9800XT speeds giving you excellent performance.....

Thanks all for 9800Pro suggestions and for the detailed post, Pete.

If I can't land that used 9500Pro, I'll jump on the 9800Pro right away.
