If you are going for an Nvidia card, I would reccomend something like the 9800 GTX which you could find at about $199 on newegg.

If you don't care about Nvidia / ATI and just want the best performance/price card, you could go with a 4850 for even a little less. Keep in mind that these cards are new, and they don't have official drivers listed yet. Read the "Quick guide to getting your 4850/4870 up and running" thread posted in this section

I honestly dont care if its a ati or nvidia(I have slight preference to nvidia but in the end if a cards better its better) performance and reliability is more of an issue

4850 or if you can stretch it 4870,personally I have no issues with ATI or their drivers, btw I had a Nvidia card before so just make sure you remove the old Nvidia drivers via Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner.

4850 is the best choice under $200.

Why a quad? E8400 will be faster in games and cheaper.

Newegg has combo deals on P5Q Pro + E8400 and P5Q Pro + 4850 (in addition to the 4850 rebate).

As far as I can tell... NewEgg's combo deal with the P5Q Pro + 4850 has ended.

But the combo deal with E8400 + P5Q Pro still exists... it's a $35 discount to buy both at once. $304.98 total.

P5Q Pro (alone) - $149.99
Q9450 (alone) - $329.99
TOTAL COST - $479.98

By going the E8400 + P5Q Pro route... you'll get similar or better game performance for $175 cheaper. (read: more $ to spend on a better video card!!)

Here's another way to look at it...

Q9450 + P5Q Pro + 4850 (~$200) = ~$679.98
E8400 + P5Q Pro + 4870 (~$300) = ~$604.98

Unless you think you'll keep this CPU for 3+ years... you'd be better served going that route, then buying a Quad-core for around $150 in a year or so when Nehalem hits and Quads are a bit better utilized. Then you can afford to upgrade a step to 4870, and STILL save over $70. That'll give you a cheaper (and far superior) gaming computer.

That's what I'd do, anyway. :)

Moo.
