Hi im a counter-strike player :)

1.6 just came out and my FPS suck now so for the time being ive decided to get some more oomph in the video section

XFX GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR Video Card
ATI Radeon 9000 128MB DDR AGP w/TV OEM

i currently am getting this for my older computer, 700 mhz athlon 386 sdram. (yes i know its old but it runs well :))

which would deliver more FPS? TIA

How much are you willing to spend, and are you planning to do any other upgrades in the near future?

Of those 2 the 5200 is the faster card, but is no Hotrod. You would thank yourself many times if you would squeeze out another $50 for a 9600pro.

with a 9600 you would be ste in the video card range for HL2, so you only need a new mobo and cpu.

I don't really care for either of those cards, but the fx5200 would probably be slightly better. You might also want to consider getting a 9100 or 8500, or even a gf3. Imo a 9600 pro would be overkill if you're not going to be upgrading the rest of you system.

$50-60 budget - Get a Radeon 8500/9100
$75-$95 budget - Get a Geforce 4 Ti series card

Cards above will definitely be noticeably faster than either the FX5200 or ATI 9000 in majority of scenarios and are in a similar price range of the cards you mentioned.. Any card faster would definitely be overkill considering your cpu/memory/board limitations. Good luck to you.

I don't think either of two would help much, your CPU is the bottleneck. HL/CS is very CPU intensive.
