Which video card to buy?

My radeon 8500 just crapped out on me.

I need something that:
- Dual desktop
- good for gaming
- decent for cad/engineering work

I don't wanna spend more than 250.
(I hate asking for others to make decisions for me, but theres ALOT of video cards on the market and you guys are the most knowledgable - that and i can't do much research on them from work, home PC has no video)
 
Ditto! get the ATI/Sapphire 9800np with some good Samsung(not Infineon 🙁 ) memory chips, prolly 3.3 or 2.8🙂P)..and later Flash the Bios to 9800PRO 😀... thats what i'm planning to do 😀

Is 250 too much?
I'd be more than happy to spend less...
 
Is there a big difference between "built by" and "powered by"?
(Performance wise i mean)

Also, retail or oem a big difference?
 
Looks like i can get a 9800 NP for 235...is it worth the 30ish more bucks to get a 9700 pro??

No it's not worth $30 more for a 9700 pro. A 9700 pro and a 9800np are basically equal at stock speeds. And the difference between pro and non pro on a 9700 or a 9800 is just clock speeds.
 
get the 9800 NP, the performance is almost identical to that of the 9700 pro and can be flashed into a 9800 pro. there is no difference in performance betweem built by and powered by ATi cards
