Which vid card is better?

THis guy is selling me a video card for $20 tomorrow. He lets me choose between 2.

NVidia geforce 5200 128MB

ATI 8500LE 128MB

WHICH ONE is BETTER???

EDIT: The 5200 supports DX9 but the 8500, only DX8.1

My 5200 was medioce at best, Even though it was DX9 capable, calling it a dx9 card was kind of a stretch.

I'm not really sure which to recommend, but I would be willing to go with the faster card of the dx8 gen then a slower card of the dx9.

Go for the geforce for sure. A friend of mine has that 8500 LE, and its unbelievably slow, not even as fast as a Geforce 4 Ti 4200.

I've been running a FX 5200 for over a year on my "WorkRig" listed in my sig, great little cards for what they where. I watch movies with mine all the time, and it looks really good, but then again I was lucky when Albatron put out their 5200s, really great chips and caps on the cards.

Honestly I looked into this when I bought mine, Albatron put out the best 5200 out there, so if I was you, trying to get the best of these for the money, find the Albatron 5200.

By the way who makes the 5200 you want to buy? That has a lot to say about the quality of the card.

geforce fx 5200...though it blows, its dx9 compared to the dx8 radeon 8500.

I never ran an 8500 but I do own an FX 5200. Although the cards were too slow (the whole FX series was), the 5200 is a little trooper and can do mostly anything you need it to. I remember playing games with good quality video at 1024x768 on it just fine (Need For Speed Underground, etc).

Since you have $20 now, pass on your friends card. Don't go to Taco Bell for lunch and dinner one day so you can save another $10 to buy a Ti4200.

Thanks for all the replies. I have got myself the 8500LE because of the higher stats across the board.

Although it doesn't support DX9, I believe that it doesn't matter at this price.

I have also heard that its very overclockable with a simple voltmod you can do with a pencil. Has anyone tried that before?

No, the clock speed are just lower than the 8500. 250/250 vs 275/275
