Is it ok to install the ones that came with my CD and then later just update them via Via's website? ;) I am reformatting because I was locking up a LOT, something about devdrvl16 or something, and I think it was related to the sb live. :(

hmmm... the manual recommends turbo... but did anyone read what it really does? I'm just curious cause I have the exact same setup.. Also, did anyone have problems with the onboard audio? It works for awhile, then it'll just cut out and make a high pitch squeal... Hmmm... I guess it really doesn't matter to me anymore since I put in the SBLive...

I think Turbo mode allows AGP 2X/4X and standard is only AGP 1x.

Yes it's ok to install off the CD but if you're running Win98 it's default drivers should be ok until you download the new 4in1's. Ahh yes, VIA and soundcards. The key (for the vortex2 anyway) is to NOT reboot after installing the card..first go into device manager and disabled the Dos Emulation. For SB Live I'm not sure but I think part of its problem lies with the DOS Emulation as well (who the hell plays DOS games anymore??) oh yeah, and try your soundcard in pci slot 2 (two down from AGP slot) and don't have anything in slot 1.

I believe the 4in1 drivers that came on the CD are the latest version if you got the K7T Pro2A... But I guess it doesn't hurt to DL them... I don't think you need to install the audio drivers in the 4in1 driver set if your using the SBLive. It's a pain in the ass to install the SBLive if you ask me... especially when your short on IRQ's as it is... and it doesn't help that the SBLive tries to take 2 irq's to start with (arrrrrg). Try disabling some stuff like USB, and Network card and let the SBLive install first.. Then make sure the SB16 emulator to share with IRQ 7 (LPT1) is selected. Then re-enable your other things. Sometimes, you might have swap some of your PCI cards around and/or set them in your CMOS.

I had problems with my SBLive Value! after I decided that since the 16bit(Dos) emulators were in conflict(according to Device Manager) I would "remove" them from the system and let them re-install upon a re-boot. Well, I had a heck of a time getting the card to operate. Creative Labs tech support instructed me to uninstall the card, then completely re-install the card. when I tried this, I found that with all the other IRQ's used up, I could not get the card to assign an IRQ to itself.
Inevetibly, I have to disable 3 or 4 peripherals in order to get the Live Value to re-install. Once it installed, I then re-enabled the peripherals that I had to disable and then all was well.

Creative tech support stated that the emulators would show up as conflicted but to not remove them. I could disable them but not remove them. Apparently they have to be in the system for the card to work properly.

Hope this helps

System:
Cel566 (OC'd 805)
MSI 6309 V1
Inno3D GeForce 256 AGP
SB Live! Value

This is along the same lines:

When is time to install the 4-in-1 drivers, before or after all other drivers? Or does it matter?

And with the three patches, can you run them all in one session and reboot once, or is it better to run a patch, reboot, run another, etc?
Thanks.

I've installed almost everything so far and so good , except the SB LIVE! ARG! Also how and where do you enter that conservative line again?
